Hi, Fiona,
I agree with the other comments. Why does Six Sigma work? Because it is based on data and not best guess. Feeling is critical in a decision, but varies from one to the other and can not be sustained over the time.
Maybe one of the hardest steps in the Define phase is trying to figure out what can be measured. In fact, that is not the only impact in a project, but that is the most reasonable measurement, the only way to replicate results and make comparisons.
In an expemple, how can you measure a satisfaction in a project? The idea is to find a measurable thing that can be tracked. Otherwise, feelings change once you have developed a new environment. A good score in the past is not the same as a good score in a new situation. The measurement is the possibility to step back and re-analyze and also to replicate to other projects.
The question is not "Is customer satisfied?".The question is "what are the critical requirements to make them satisfied?"
"Is the customer satisfied with our freight?" or "What is the expected delivery time?".
