HealthSouth Increases Healthcare Quality

Hospital operator HealthSouth is building a state-of-the-art "digital hospital" that is expected to significantly increase the quality of service that patients will receive.

The new hospital, to be located in Birmingham, Alabama, will feature:

  • Square Feet: 500,000
  • Beds: 219 -- Each With Own Internet Connection
  • Online: Networked Monitoring Equipment and Examination Tools
  • Software: Oracle

    Data being gathered digitally will allow doctors and nurses to update records more quickly, completly online and even remotely (on the move throughout the hospital).

    HealthSouth anticipates errors to be reduced as a result of the additional data and system automation. In addition, the process will be streamlined, thereby reducing the time spent on paperwork and other administrative functions. The increase in hospital efficiency is expected to decrease hospital costs and increase the time spent by doctors with patients.
