Using iSixSigma.com Copyrighted Articles and Materials

The information presented here is only valid for iSixSigma websites. For articles found in iSixSigma Magazine, please visit www.isixsigma-magazine.com/reprint.
All material published by iSixSigma on any of its websites or in any of its online publication is copyright and is solely for the personal use of individuals who visit the sites and/or subscribe to the publications. The general use, reproduction, republication or redistribution of the content for any other purpose requires written permission and the payment of licensing fees.

Permission Not Needed to Quote Articles or Other Copyright Material

Students, scholars, authors, journalists and other writers are, of course, free to quote from copyrighted articles or other materials on the iSixSigma websites or online publications without permission or the payment of fees. It does not matter whether the quotes are used in a term paper, thesis, white paper, book, an article or any publication, no permission is needed. (Only using all or substantially all of an article requires the permission of the owner of the material.) Those who quote from iSixSigma materials are expected to credit the author, and reference the title of the work and iSixSigma as the publisher of the material being quoted.

Permission Sometimes Given With No Requirement of Licensing Fees

iSixSigma often gets requests from educators who want to share articles or other materials with students, government officials who want to share the same with people in their agency, and training leaders in private companies who want to share the same with employees. Our response is always to suggest that a link to the material on iSixSigma be established, instead of reproducing our content via printed or electronic means. (Go to http://www.isixsigma.com/about/link.asp for all instructions and options for linking to iSixSigma.) If a link is not workable, we also suggest that students or others be supplied with the URLs of each article so they can access the items on iSixSigma websites on their own computers, and print them if need be. No permission is needed for a link or supplying others with the URLs of particular articles or other materials.

In special instances, iSixSigma provides permission for a limited number of print reproductions of articles or other materials to be distributed in classrooms of educational institutions. Also, permission has been given to members of professional organizations who volunteer to help educate their colleagues by conducting a conference program. Please email requests to Copyright Requests in these instances or if you have other needs not addressed here. Fees are waived on a case-by-case basis.

Most Requests for Use of iSixSigma Content Require Licensing Fees

Why License Content from iSixSigma.com?

  • iSixSigma can provide your organization with timely Six Sigma information and articles for weekly or monthly publications.
  • Enhance your organization's intranet web site with valuable content.
  • Reduce your editorial and personnel costs with a feed from iSixSigma.
  • Increase your reader's knowledge with Six Sigma articles specific to your industry/sector.

iSixSigma, at its discretion, licenses articles or other materials to businesses, professional associations, government agencies, schools and individuals for reproduction in print or on password-protected intranet sites. No licenses for the use of content from any iSixSigma website are sold to other Internet websites.

On intranet sites, individual unmodified iSixSigma articles or materials are licensed for use during a single 30-day period for $100 per item. (Graphic elements contained within an article or other materials are included in the price of the article.)

In print (including books, magazines, pamphlets, flyers and memos), individual unmodified iSixSigma articles or materials are licensed for a one-time use for $100 per item. Second printings or revised editions require another payment of $100 per item. A license for all printings or all revised editions requires a payment of $250 per item. (Graphic elements contained within an article or other materials are included in the price of the article.)

The fee is separate for each medium. Thus, if an article is to be used in print and on an intranet site, the fee would be $200.

In addition to paying the copyright fee, the following two lines must be associated with any reprint:
