Calculating Benefits
I need to determine the point in the lifecycle of an employee when the costs outweigh the benefit of having the person employed.
"It cost about $5,000 to hire and train the employee. I am paid a flat daily rate by the client for each 8 hour day the employee works. The rate at which I am paid for the person is static. The employee's starting salary is $8.50 and goes up 2% to 5% annually. I need to set up an equation that will tell me when the costs exceed the benefit. If this makes sense to anyone, I'd appreciate the help.

Teaching Measurement Concepts
A colleague of mine is running a session that covers the concepts of measurement. Not measurement as in the DMAIC phase, but business measures and the concept that the wrong measures drive out the wrong behaviors.
"I'm looking for a game that would bring to life: The impact of silo thinking; wrong measures, wrong behavior; and customer CTQs and how the customer sees the process rather than taking an internal view.

Using Control Charts
When we control chart now, why don't we plot two horizontal lines for the upper specification limit and the lower specification limit. Then plot xbar (the average of the 3 or 5 or however many readings on the hour). Then to determine if we are in control or not, calculate sigma based on the last 30 measurements or so and plot plus or minus 3 sigma from the xbar line. Then if THAT line exceeds the specification limits, we are out of control.

Improving Personal Communication
How can I work in a Six Sigma project focused on personal communication conflicts? Can someone give me a light? I'm not sure how to use the Six Sigma tools in this kind of problem.

Controlling with KPI
I work for a Toyota dealer in Latin America. Toyota uses the PDCAA (Plan-Do-Check-Act-Achieve) to manage projects in the company. They overemphasize on measuring and use lots of KPI. I agree that KPI are extremely important, but they do it just for checking the system and not for improving the system...Just measuring and measuring is not good enough, but at the end we need some KPI to control the project right?
