Building Valuable Process Maps Takes Skill and Time

Practitioners who think process mapping can be completed in a two-hour session with a group of subject matter experts, a white board and some sticky notes are likely to end up with a nice piece of paper with a bunch of squares and diamonds. This is because process mapping is not for wimps. Creating a process map that tells a full, data-based story requires a decent amount of time and effort by those individuals involved in the process.

Working for 5S Acceptance
I am working for a small company that in the manufacturing plant seems to have had various deployments of 5S plans, but still seems to have ongoing issues. I am looking for a way to integrate a culture change to deal with the emotional acceptance of the manufacturing worker and maintenance worker.

Improvement for Fast-moving Services
There is an extensive and well developed school of thought around FMCG, but not yet around the service industry for services that are provided quickly. Of course there are courses in Lean, Six Sigma, innovation, business model development for services (even though they are mostly translations from a product to a service environment). However, I am wondering if anyone is aware if a school of thought is developing that could bring all these components together in the future for the service industry.

Communicating by Sigma
Do people still use the sigma score of a process when talking to non-process people, or even within the community? I found that this causes confusion and misunderstandings galore and is seen as a barrier to working on projects. I now only communicate in percentage good or bad or, for small figures, defects per million. Am I missing something on this, or am I just too hung up on communicating in a way people understand?

Comparing Degree Programs

Tough Sell in Transportation
Using Six Sigma on transportation projects can be tricky and here's why: A lot of management will want you to cut cost and expenses, never mind if you make the processes more efficient. It's all about the bottom line to them. This is okay, but it can degrade the Six Sigma methodology a lot. Hopefully this isn't the case.
