Comparing Training Targets
I'm working on refining our LSS deployment plan, and have put together some targets for training penetration for our organization. I'm defining our rate as the percentage of employees who have been through training as Champions, BB, GB or YB. I'm looking for benchmarking information from other companies on this. Has anyone developed this plan or implemented a strategy they would be willing to share?

Projects in Human Resources
I work as a Black Belt. We wish to make a list of Six Sigma projects in the HR areas. Presently, we have done 10 projects - these are mostly in the areas of administrative cost (travel, IT, conveyance, printing and stationery, mobile, telephone) and recruitment (cost and lead time). We want to do projects on people processes such as PMS, CMS, reward and recognition, and training. We seek your opinions on projects that have been or are being done in these areas.

Sample Size Considerations
I want to see if a machine gauge that does an electrical test affects the position of a metal part in the assembly. I want to collect samples of parts after this metal part is in place but before the electrical test is performed. I would then collect the same number of parts after the test is done. I cannot test the same parts for both samples because once a part is removed from the machine it cannot be placed back into the machine.
"My question deals with sample size. I know you need to take into account what power you want the test to have, but is that the only thing I should take into account?

Setting Goals for Black Belts
Can anyone give me some examples of quantifiable goals that you set for your Black Belts or that you have as part of your annual evaluations? In the process of setting goals as part of our middle manager evaluation process?

Nonlinear Relationships and Y Hat Models
Ran into this issue the other day when an engineer wanted to develop a transfer function (y hat model) to explain the relationship of three design factors (dimensions) on the output response for his product. The concern was that there was a good possibility of some nonlinear relationships, so we decided to run a full factor DOE (3 factors) with 3 levels.
"Sure enough, some nonlinear main effects plots were developed, but the thing that caught me off guard was no coefficients in the output to build my y hat equation. Is this the case for any 3 or more level DOE when things act nonlinear? In this case, do I use the DOE results to determine what factors are important and then build my math model by hand using nonlinear stepwise regression techniques?
