Follow a Structured Approach to Continuous Improvement
The need to deploy a continuous improvement (CI) program is greater than ever. In the global financial meltdown, companies must find ways to produce goods and services cheaper, faster and better, while continuously delighting customers.
In an effort to catch up, companies may be tempted to launch extensive training programs or start multiple improvement projects with too little thought and planning. But a hasty, incomplete approach to the deployment of a CI program is the perfect recipe for disaster and unachieved potential. Instead, organizations can follow a simple framework - the Awareness-Motivation-Competency-Implementation (AMCI) approach - to deploy a CI program that will help maintain structure but also achieve results.

Collecting Machine Downtime Data
I am spearheading a project where we are looking to collect more accurate machine downtime data. We have multiple, different machines throughout our process. Does anyone have any advice or a sample form they could share? I would like to have one form that captures type and amount of downtime experienced by machine.

Creating an Inspection Plan
I designed a new work station for insertion of wires in a wire harness. This workstation allows the worker to complete the assembly in a single go instead of first completing half processes and then assembling them at the end of the day. So in single go assembly the quality inspector has more time for inspections as compared to the previous method in which he only checked the first and last one. Now since he has more time, how should I devise a plan for how many inspections he should make?

I'm thinking of taking training courses. Should I start with Yellow Belt, then Green Belt, then Lean? Or, should I do Lean first and the rest to follow?
