Six Sigma Adds Structure to Quality Audit Process

Quality audits are performed to verify the effectiveness of a quality management system. To complete a quality audit effectively, practitioners can use the DMAIC roadmap as an organizational resource. Six Sigma provides the tools to improve the capability and reduce the defects in any process, and quality audits are no exception.

Top Reference Books
It seems that when a post is made to this site that many times the response is something like '... more is in ____'s book [Title], pages x through y....' It seems like a wide variety of books are referenced, so one would get a whole library of books accumulated, each used very rarely.

"So my question: Is it possible for say 5 books to be nominated that cover 90% or more of the information needed? If so, which books would they be?

Tracking Work Hours
I have been tasked by my supervisor to figure out how many man-hours are consumed during phases in a project. He wants to know where the real hours are being used. An example would be during the start of a disassembly phase, mechanics are very busy, but once they are done they move on to something else.

"We are doing this for calculating earned value management (EVM). Has anybody out there done a similar study?

Measures Too Good to Be True?
I review around 30+ mixtures (60+ measures) per day, and it has been about three weeks since a value has not been recorded as in the acceptance range. My suspicions are up -- that I should have had an outlier (outside of the acceptance range) out of the roughly 900+ measures (two measures per mixture, but the different measures seem to be highly correlated). Am I right?

FMEA on its Own
Can FMEA be applied as a standalone tool for process improvement, or it is necessary for FMEA to only be applied through a quality improvement project?

Calculating Turnover
Is there a source or reference point for industry and local standards relating to the turnover ratio caculations?
