Start with ISO 26000, the recently adopted International Organization for Standardization Guidance for Social Responsibility, then consider your organization’s value proposition and core values, and the 7 classic sources of waste as defined in lean thinking:

1. Overproduction
2. Unnecessary transportation
3. Excess inventory
4. Excess motion
5. Defects (resulting in scrap or rework)
6. Over-processing (doing unnecessary work)
7. Waiting (wasted time)

The synergies between lean and green should become obvious.

It will be appropriate if you state India lagging in Lean and Sigma. I do not think China and other Asia countries are slow in the lean sigma champaign.

IBM proposed a new term “Green Sigma” years ago to intergrate Lean Sigma methodogy with green technology.
