the question is Upper control limit for the range chart: 44.95
Upper control limit for the individuals: 64.93
Lower control limit for the individuals: 0.00
Is the system stable? Explain your answer. no there are points out of control limits

Is the measurement system discriminate?

If the process is unstable, how could you determine what is causing the instability?

I answered the first columsn with UCL and LCL , I need help with the last two.

Hi, I feel that the query needs some more basic information on the problem or situation.

Will you provide some more information about the problem?
This will be useful to answer your query.

@mpeters We usually do not assist students with their homework assignments but I am feeling uncranky today so I will provide some thoughts. Your first question about whether the measurement system is discriminate can’t really be answered with the data you provided. You would need to do a MSA study to determine whether the measurement system can discern differences. Not sure what your question is asking. As to the second question regarding how to find the source of instability, you would need to do a root cause analysis. Investigate the process using some simple tools such as fishbone diagram or Cause and Effect Matrix or more advanced tools like Hypothesis Testing. The source of the instability is not a function of statistics but process knowledge and what is going on. An out of control point or other signal of special cause variation will at least point you to a time period to investigate.
