SPC When ‘Higher’ or ‘Lower’ Is Desired

The standard approach to teaching Statistical Process Control (SPC) is to teach the concepts as they were originally designed almost 100 years ago. That is, a constant target (average) is desired. However, as we teach SPC to a broader audience, many times "higher is better" or "lower is better" is desired by members of our audience. Can SPC be applied to some of these situations and how? We'll explore some more common scenarios.
