Description

The Continuous Improvement Engineer 2 reports to Technical Leadership and provides manufacturing expertise to solve difficult problems and continuously improve our manufacturing organization and/or supply base. Provides leadership and direction in manufacturing for programming, processing, tooling or working with development engineering on new hardware.
Essential Functions

Provides technical solutions
Recognizes problems which are beyond capabilities and is learning from the experts in the area
Supports new capital equipment purchases and implementation with justification documentation
Creates cell layouts and process improvement initiatives
Uses basic Six Sigma and lean tools to improve processes
Uses basic concepts of Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) and supports new product introduction
Represents the company with our customers
Supports updates to management on operations status
Participates in process improvements on a project level
Supports the manufacturing floor for any process related questions and develops/trains other members in the manufacturing process
Creates, maintains and develops new process documentation and updates work order documentation
Implements complex engineering changes
Adheres to applicable Quality System requirements and supports process audits
Initiates and supports Process Flow Charts, PFMEA, and Control Plans
Learns from more tenured Operations Engineers. May mentor Level 1 Operations Engineers or Manufacturing Specialists.
Other Functions

Basic understanding of design for complex tools and fixturing
Basic understanding of all applicable software
May participate in multi-site projects
Basic knowledge of vendors, manufacturing processes, and procurement methods
May train other members of the team on theory and design of existing/new equipment
Manufacturing Engineering Specific Functions
Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and/or basic design and implementation of Computer Numeric Controls (CNC) programming
Industrial Engineer Specific Functions
Basic design understanding of process layouts and supports ergonomic studies, time studies and implementation
Controls Engineer Specific Functions
Basic understanding of PLC's and Automation
Supports plant wide controls related issues and corrective actions Skills:

Education or Formal Training
Bachelor's degree in technical/science or International equivalent required
Six Sigma Green Belt preferred
Professional certifications preferred (i.e. AWS, SME, CWE, CWI, etc.)
Experience Required
Greater than 2 years professional engineering experience or a combination of experience and advanced degree required
Basic written/verbal communication and presentation skills
Basic Six Sigma knowledge; Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts
Basic Project planning tools
Basic troubleshooting and problem solving skills; Basic understanding of Root Cause Analysis
Basic computer and technical writing skills
Uses basic concepts of Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) and supports new product introduction
Basic understanding of electrical and/or mechanical machine drawings, including industry specifications
Manufacturing Engineering
Basic understanding of applicable manufacturing processes including Computer Numeric Controls (CNC) programming;
Basic knowledge of capabilities studies, Gage R&R, and machine capability;
Basic understanding of machinery related to electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, etc. in order to troubleshoot
Basic understanding of product drawings, including GD&T and specification flow down
Industrial Engineering
Basic understanding of applicable manufacturing processes; Basic knowledge of capabilities studies, Gage R&R, and machine capability; Basic understanding of machinery related to electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, etc. in order to troubleshoot; Basic understanding of cell and plant layout drawings, including HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and other Utility needs/layouts
Controls Engineering
Basic knowledge on database management software skills
Basic programming knowledge of applicable software (i.e. G Code, CNC, PLC, etc.)
