The Manufacturing Process Leader has responsibility for managing the safety, quality and efficiency of manufacturing operations. The occupant of this position will utilize lean operating principles to develop, maintain, and continuously improve the production and quality processes including process design, cell layout, employee training and test strategy. This individual will play a key role in developing and coordinating product build schedules for manufacturing operations while also working closely with supply chain to ensure continuity of material supply to meet established production schedules. This position will contribute to the strategic direction of the company’s manufacturing unit with the goal of increasing efficiency and profitability. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate proven leadership abilities along with a strong acumen to support a large manufacturing team for a rapidly growing organization with diverse technological needs.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Quality of product assembled showing substantial reduction in field failures within the first 90 days of operation
  • On time delivery of systems and parts to our customers
  • Continuity of material supply to meet production demand.
  • Manage EDO and ECN release process into production.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee manufacturing operations for production of fuel cell and hydrogen product lines
  • Increase the manufacturing team’s output and capacity for output for expected growth of 30%-50% annually
  • Help drive positive P&L results through effective cost management and prudent utilization of resources
  • Evaluate and develop departmental procedures that support cost control, rigid quality standards and foster efficiency and accuracy
  • Develop and grow strong cross-functional relationships to ensure the achievement of department and business objectives through collaboration and communication
  • Engage outside contractor and engineering firms to meet the manufacturing assembly and test equipment needs as well as any facility infrastructure changes necessary
  • Plan and coordinate production schedules for materials and various assemblies
  • Work closely with supply chain to ensure materials needed to meet production schedules are on-hand and consistent with quality specifications
  • Manage the work order process from start to finish in order to meet the customer required delivery dates in the master schedule and all documentation to match for quarter closings and yearly audits
  • Partner with engineering to manage deviations to the standard material requirements for a given build.
  • Guide quality organization to implement and maintain ISO qualification
  • Lead the manufacturing engineering team in lean work cell design including details around safety, ergonomics, proper kanban setup, and visual controls
  • Manage the prototype resources for new product assemblies, fixtures and miscellaneous equipment
  • Prioritize a culture of safety and ensure ongoing communication of safety related priorities; champion process improvements with a focus on elimination of preventable workplace incidents
  • Represent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • BS degree in engineering, business, or other relevant field of study; advanced degree and/or MBA preferred
  • 10+ years of managerial experience within a production environment
  • Advanced acumen with waste reduction, process improvement and root-cause analysis methodologies including: 8D, Six-Sigma, Lean and others
  • Data mining skills with the ability to develop analytics for specific measurements
  • Able to identify gaps and critical needs to meet team’s objectives
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines with a sense of urgency
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills including daily communications with the team and with internal customers
  • Inspirational leadership characteristics; proven ability to coach and enable team development
  • Proven track record in project management; delivering quality results on-time and on budget
  • Dynamic interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences and stakeholders at all levels
