This position will have overall responsibilities for the quality systems, product quality, and talent development of the quality personnel for the Hattiesburg Campus. This will include all operations at both the Machining and Assembly facilities, along with all Supplier Quality and receiving inspection functions at the facilities level. The primary metrics for success in this position will be sustaining and improving a quality system that delivers world class results as reflected through developing targeted business strategies and quality metrics, forward roadmap planning, and execution of actions and activities to improve the product quality processes and procedures to meet customer and business expectations. This will include technical understanding of engines, process controls and improvements, measurement devices and gaging, and audit systems and procedures for delivering key activities to meet targeted customer PPM, product warranty, best in class customer satisfaction, compliance with all relevant government guidelines, maintaining planned and current certifications, talent development of the Quality team, and creating a continued investment in error proofing and operational traceability systems.
1.Manage the Quality Department’s staff and teams that will include Quality Engineers, analyst, technicians, and inspectors in both machining and assembly operations. Focus on keeping them engaged and make recommendations concerning staffing levels, performance, and training requirements for continued talent development.
2.Prepare and submit operating expense budgets and monthly forecast for Quality activities for both facilities, and control expenses per approved budgets. This includes driving implementation of all Quality led projects including capital project planning and execution, and expense activities.
3.Responsible for driving resolution to issues identified through the analysis of quality metrics, including incidents caused by defective purchased material. Responsible for working with the corporate supplier quality team in conjunction with the Hattiesburg team to ensure proper pre-planning, gaging, inspection plans, etc. are in place for every component by supplier before incorporated into the product.
4.Lead the analysis of scrap and rework costs, warranty claims, and audit failures as a team approach and ownership and work with manufacturing supports groups and operations to develop and execute continuous improvements in these areas. Included in this would be PFMEA and Control plan reviews and updates as needed.
5.Work with Manufacturing Engineering and Manufacturing Support groups to develop and drive plans to reduce process variation.
6.Creating production plans for new products and processes to guarantee quality from stage one to Start of Production. Included in this will be control and adherence to the Kohler engine operation certification procedures. This may include requirements for scheduling project plans with supporting groups to fit project deadlines.
7.Drive prompt responses to Corrective Action Requests (from customers or internal) and Field Complaints ensuring that the true root cause is found using a disciplined problem-solving method and instituting both corrective and preventive action.
8.Maintain world-class quality systems modeled after ISO 9001:2010 by complying with ISO accreditation requirements and standardized procedures listed in Kohler’s ISO procedures. Drive standardization and continuous improvement utilizing the Kohler Quality Management System (KQMS).
9.Responsible for definition and execution of non-conforming material containment processes and procedures while consistently analyzing current processes to close any gaps and modify such procedures and processes based on business strategies. This will include acceptance and rejection criteria, audit plans, screening stock, product holds, product deviations, component scrap, etc.)
10.Responsible for monthly Quality reviews for both facility operations including goal measurements, last 30 days results in terms of internal and external customer reports, corrective actions, and improvement plans. Drive weekly analysis reviews within the team for individual department results to insure timely response to real-time issues and corrective actions.
11.Drive and encourage continuing education on newly developing Quality Control techniques such as new gaging tools, coordinate measurement systems, automated gaging opportunities, etc..
12.Makes site visits to customers and suppliers to analyze quality issues as required.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Industrial/Mechanical Technology required from an ABET accredited school preferred, or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with extensive experience in a technical and complex manufacturing environment. ASQ, Shainin Master, or Six Sigma Black Belt certification or experience preferred. Minimum of 7 years leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
