The SVP, Multi-Specialty Practice Operations will be an integral member of the senior leadership team and have strategic and executive responsibilities for launching and optimizing primary care and multi-specialty practice medical group operations in a retail clinic setting. Responsibilities will include providing the operational and strategic leadership necessary to build and deliver high-value care (cost, quality, and patient experience) for a new business segment, many in conjunction with partners across the Optum Enterprise. Will have specific accountability for insuring successful growth of the assigned practices. This position will report to the President. Staff oversight includes several service lines and administrative leaders.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assume a key leadership role in the business development and operations to drive bottom line growth by launching and integrating primary care practices and multi-specialty service lines into a cohesive patient - focused retail solution
  • Combine an instinct for new business development initiatives with a strong rigor in financial analysis and operational efficiency
  • Lead patient care delivery system development and operations across clinical enterprise, collaborating effectively with physicians and other members of the health care team
  • Attention to detail and continuous improvement responsible for operational and management activities in the following areas within the Medical Group: all facets of business and clinical operations including de novo growth, budget planning and management, strategic planning, project management, facility interfaces, as well as internal and external communications
  • Demonstrate visibility with the providers and the ability to facilitate smooth communication between clinicians and operating executives through operational transparency
  • Motivate and empower employees at all levels to be innovative and action - oriented, including taking a hands-on approach to launching and maintaining best in breed, virtual and in-person primary care and multi-specialty solutions
  • Advance a culture of accountability with clearly established lines of authority and decision-making
  • Work closely with the Chief Medical Officer and others on physician manpower plan to continuously identify recruitment and retention opportunities and needs
  • Taking ownership / leadership in aligning / recruiting physicians that best fit the organization and needs of the community
  • Establishing and then continuously improving current practice operations, policies, and processes while identifying opportunities to standardize clinical operations and integration across the platform
  • Ensure payer strategy is aligned to maximize bottom-line revenue growth
  • Sustain an environment of continuous quality improvement, including the identification of concrete performance measures across clinical, service, financial, operational, management, patient satisfaction, and community functions
  • Hardwire responsive and proactive operating processes and systems in order to meet market pressures and growth
  • In collaboration with senior leadership, refine and execute the overall strategy of the medical group, and strengthen / align the business and clinical objectives across the continuum, positioning the medical group for future sustainability
  • Drive process improvements to deliver consistent and standardized daily practice operations designed to improve clinical services, outcomes, patient throughput, and patient safety

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Management, or related field or demonstrated equivalency
  • 10+ years of experience in progressive leadership roles in a multi-specialty group practice, PHO or IPA or within an integrated health system
  • Proven success in establishing and scaling primary care and multi-specialty practices, clinic administration, organization management, and professional billing procedures, with demonstrated competence in the development and implementation of related program, such as the management of resources with multi-site management experience
  • Experience with telehealth / digital health clinical, ideally in providing oversight of a virtual care service line / business
  • Financial management and business development, as well as P&L experience managing a multi-site medical group with a proven focus on the overall improvement of financial and operational performance of a healthcare organization
  • Experience in establishing and progressing fee for service medical models to value - driven organizations, demonstrating high levels of quality / clinical outcomes, service, productivity, and efficient operations
  • Successful track record of redesigning practice management systems and aligning incentives that have diminish silos and helped improve the performance across clinical specialties
  • Experience working collaboratively with community - based providers
  • Knowledge and experience with Lean / Six Sigma in a physician practice setting
  • Experience with health care related IT systems; electronic health records (EHR) and computerized physician order entry (CPOE). Ability to assist the health system in making key IT - related decisions impacting physician practices
  • Desire to continuously update offerings in response to consumer trends and needs
  • Demonstrated successful track record of acting as a change agent within an organization
  • Solid business acumen, quality, and metrics orientation
  • Financially astute and highly experienced in using, developing and implementing benchmarks and other tools that improve operating, financial and service performance
  • Physician relations skills and experience working collaboratively with employed or private medical groups
  • Knowledge of national physician practice trends, policies, and issues affecting physician practices
  • Familiarity with risk, managed care, capitation, ACO development, and population health management
  • You will be asked to perform this role in an office setting or other company location
  • Employees are required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained
