Let me set the background. You have prepared the set os questions and your customer is rating the questions in terms of ‘importance’ and ‘how are you performing’.
The purpose of Csat is to know in which parameters you are exceeding the customer satisfaction and does it matter to the customer. So I would advice you to follow the below…[Read more] -

Hi Vignesh,
Using regression model, you can come up with a equation that provides relation between the input variables and the output (defect rate).
The input variables are the various factors that have significant impact on the output. These factors have to be verified using actual data and statistical tools like hypothesis testing methods or…[Read more] -

Sidhartha,
This can be a very good six sigma project and part from the root causes analysis, your primary focus should be on the measurement error of ‘visua verifier’.
To get a quick grasp of the problem, you should be focussing on the VV process, to understand whether VV measurement process is capable to detect the kind of errors reported by…[Read more] -

The issues highlighted by you can be resolved or taken care of by scoping the project at the appropriate level and take buy-in from all the stakeholders.
Typically before you kick-off the project, it is expected that you do the SIPOC, which will help you to scope the process based on the inputs and agencies, which will be focussed on, in your…[Read more] -

Aru,
You can start with the data collection on the different defects and link each of the defect to the area of source. Then prepaare a pareto of the ‘area of source’ and prioritise the area of sources.
Each area of source will have a process associated with it. Prepare detail process map of the key ‘area of sources’ and then understand the…[Read more] -
Yadav replied to the topic Is Six sigma helps to improve CMMI level in the forum Software/IT 14 years, 9 months ago
Hi,
Six-Sigma compliments in acheiving CMMi maturity level.
As you may be aware that in CMMi there are 22 process areas and each of the process area have best practices / guidelines/ standards which help you to improve that particular process area. DMAIC approach can be applied to improve each of the process area, which will help to acheive the…[Read more] -

Kisk,
The process performance models for a software process have to take into consideration the functional domain and the technology used. Based on the complexity of the functional domain and the kind of technology used, the process performance model may differ, but the approach should not differ .
Before you start building the model, you may…[Read more] -

Lou,
It is important that the metric you use for measurement of the process parameter, provides a correct perspective of the problem you are focussing on.
In the example that you have quoted, the problem is the no. of troubled tickets in a specific category. You have mentioned that you have a sample of trouble tickets for 30 day period. Since…[Read more] -

QP,
As you may be aware Poisson distribution is used to model the number of events occuring in an interval of time.
So it makes sense that you track the number of defect detected by your testing team and the defects leaked by the testing team for a fixed time interval.
Hope this helps.

Yadav replied to the topic Difference between six sigma and CMMI in the forum Software/IT 14 years, 9 months ago
Hi Ravi,
In my view, Six Sigma compliments CMMi. What course you want to do will depend on what skills you would like to leverage on, for your career growth.
While CMMi is more focussed on Software industry, Six Sigma skills can be applied to any industry, provided you have the expertise in it. CMMi provides standards & guidelines for achieving…[Read more] -

a. As you know FMEA stands for Failure Mode Effect Analysis and one of the key output of FMEA is identify key failure modes, which have high severity and high rpn rating. The starting point of FMEA is the process mapping, which provides information on input paramters for each process step. Once you complete the FMEA for the process, you…[Read more] -
