    I am surprised that you guys are treatinting Darth so harshly. He, Mike Carmel, VinnyΒ and Ken are the most helpful people on this forum. I am sure that if they stop participating to the forum, there will not be much left, they are the ones who keep it alive.
    You need to know when someone is joking or not. Stats and Six Sigma are very dry, sprinling some jokes now and again would not cause any harm.
    Darth has been very helpful to many people, just look at the his contributions. Thanks Darth for your help.

    There is no statistical relationship between the control limits and the spcification linits.
    The specifications are set by the customer requirements while the control limits are determined by the process.

    The types of control charts used to monitor quality depend on the nature of the data gathered. Monitoring the production of parts that just either good or bad is different than monitoring specific CTQ ( such as length, weight )Β on a part. In other words, the type of control chart will depend on whether the data gathered are attribute, variable or multivariate.
    In the example that you have given, since you are talking about measurement, you should be able to use the X-bar and R charts.

    You have already joined the best forum about 6 sigma you can find in the galaxy.
    As for what books you might need, I advise you to visit this website http://www.qualitycouncil.com/Β they have excellent books on quality and 6 sigma.
    The certification process depends on where you want to take the test. If you want to study on your own and take the test.Β I suggest you test through ASQ. No matter what anybody says about it, it is a reputable organization andΒ it isΒ slowly but surely setting the standards.

    You will need to work on some project improvements to be eligible to take the 6sigma ASQ test.
    If you want to be credible, do not take the IQF test, no one respects that organization. Do not tell anyone that I said it,Β  I might be sued.
    I came across a good website on 6sigma that you might want to give a try. It is far from being complete but the statistics part is fairly well done.

    If you want to pay a lot of money to be certified, you see the blue banner on the right side of your screen, look for the word consultant and click on it, you shall find what you are looking for.

    The c-chart monitors the process variations due to the fluctuations of defects per item or group of items. The c-chart is useful for the process engineer to know not just how many items are not conforming but how many defects there are per item. Knowing how many defects there are on a given part produced on a line might in some cases be as important as knowing how many parts are defective. Here, non-conformance must be distinguished from defective items since there can be several non-conformances on a single defective item.
    The probability for a nonconformance to be found on an item, in this case follows a Poisson distribution.
    If the sample size does not change and the defects on the items are fairly easy to count, the c-chart becomes an effective tool to monitor the quality of the production process

    One of the premises for a c-chart was that the sample sizes had to be the same. The sample sizes can vary when the u-chart is being used to monitor the quality of the production process and the u-chart does not require any limit to the number of potential defects
