It depends upon your project. It depends upon your metrics as well. What are you trying to reduce? Suppose you want to reduce the defective %age from 50 to 30; what will be number of defectives you will have at 30% in comparison to existing. If the existing process is at 2 sigma level, you can target the level you want number of defectives…[Read more]

Hi Azmat, this is a very intricate question, motorola after a lot of experimentation found out a factor of 1.5 as a shift, for GE its 1.33 and so on. They introduce this shift to make the product or process error free.the same is the reason why 3.4 DPMO is still considered as a Black box…..if u see 3.4DPMO happens at 4.5sigma and if we want to…[Read more]

I agree to what Xhie has put up. to add to it backed by example. In Olympics time is a crucial factor. we try to break it in Seconds, Millisecond, Microsecond and so on, we can get finer and get more precise data. Discrete data is a Yes/No, True/False, or in mathematical lingua its called boolean algebra…..thanks, anyone can add more to this,…[Read more]

Anup replied to the topic Operations Research and Six Sigma? in the forum General 18 years, 8 months ago
Operations Research uses a lot of mathematical modeling techniques with the goal being to achieve optimization. Six sigma is primarily targetted towards variance reduction and is narrower in scope than Operations Research. Six Sigma mostly revolves around methodologies like DMAIC, DMADV etc. Operations Research involves a lot of mathematical…[Read more]

For measuring Gage R&R for Discrete data you need to use Discrete Data Analysis techniques.
