I suggest you apply some of BB tools especially GAP Analysis – Where you are and Where you want to be in 5 years or 10 years. Bottom line results – per BB definition in Career. Good Luck on new endeavors.
Hi Mr. Joglekar,
I have had used both as part of Corporate initiative. I think it is important to understand the difference between the two.
The BSC is more tuned to Stratgey and objectives. So, it helps us define the What’s. The Six Sigma projects have to be then selected based on our BSC objectives by drill-down. Having done this the Six Sigma…[Read more]
I think very valuable points have been raised.
I just want to add a few things:
1. The golden rule of Tolerance and Least Count of the gage
2. Operational definition of what is getting measured – end points, time of day/ month etc. So all about when , what, how, where to measure.
3. Sample size for data collection
4. Again, randomising…[Read more]
Personally I was involved in a couple of projects:
1. Training effectiveness
2. Cycle time of recruitment
3. Sigma alignment of MPAs within the PMS
4. Employee satisfaction survey
… all for a large commercial vehicle manufacturer in India
Give me a while.. I will arrange for the case studies and send to ur id.
Just taking you a little back…
Degree of Freedom = No. of data obeservations – number of linear constraints on the data (which are like x1+ x2=5) – number of parameters of the distribution estimated from the sample
Since, we cannot talk of linear constraints in the discrete field.. it does not exist. i.e, for example we can’t say 1…[Read more]
Essentially, Cpk is based on long-term which means stable process, which means as verified by control on a control chart etc.
Now coming to the question of using one of the estimates:
My opinion is Control Charts were devised to be used by operators on the shop floor and quite rightly so by the people running the process by extension.…[Read more]
I am from Omnex (http://www.omnex.com) who did the implementation for the projects at Intimate Fashions. I should say they have done a very good job to meet the project objectives. We have certified several people out there… I wont be able to give you the details of the project, but incase you need any further assistance, I can be…[Read more]
It depends on the level of maturity of the organization. For beginer’s stating sigma level in define could be an issue of methodlogy and quite rightly so. For a mature BB/GB, what you have suggested is absolutely fine.
Well the pre-supposition is that there is a structured methodology – there is an interplay of Y and X’s in the relevant field. Yes, you have to make quite some effort at data gathering and modelling.
I never inteded to mean that there is case-study which you can copy right-away. As I said we will structure it. And I am talking not just of p…[Read more]
I don’t know whether your last line is a question, but I will love to err on the right side here.
I am quoting Mikel Harry (further substantiated by Crosby or vice versa).
308537 as dpmo – >40% as sales as COPQ
66807 as dpmo – 25-40% sales as COPQ
6210 as dpmo – 15-25% sales as COPQ

3.4 as dpmo…[Read more]
Your question is very basic and hence v imp. First of all, you cannot have % defects as we normally mistake. It is % defective. So, if you correct to % defective, then you are not able to compare processes, because thediffer in their complexity and nature (something which is represented in the number of opportunities). This is necessary to…[Read more]
Yes indeed! Developmental economics grounded on techniques like regression analysis, anova, econometrics, time series coupled with the tools of six sigma especailly Measurement Systems can produce a good impact on this field of endeavour.
If you can initiate a dialogue, i will be able to structure the framework for you.
Thanks for the in depth analysis of BB and explaining its difficulties. Being a commerce graduate I can manage statistics but not sure about Mathematics. It will be great if you could tell me what level of mathematics is involved in this (eg Trigonometry, Calculus etc )
Thanks once again for the information
