CSSBB replied to the topic Six Sigma Beginner in the forum General 15 years, 4 months ago
Just a couple of things:
Don’t focus on certification, especialliy if you don’t have experience or a Black Belt mentor to help you gain experience. (ASQ requires 2 completed projects to sit for the CSSBB exam)
Do focus on how the course is structured (since you may be asked to teach it to your co-workers) and learn the process, tools and…[Read more] -

Hi, Kate.
First, congratulations on “deciding” to implement any process-improvement methodology. As asked in earlier replies – what does that mean? If your company – or a stressed-out manager – is trying to find something that will help reduce costs and improve quality, Lean Six Sigma can provide powerful tools that can be learned and used in s…[Read more] -

Chris,
You would never make a statement “Null is not accepted”. You either reject a null or fail to reject it.
Just my opinion. -
CSSBB replied to the topic Can BB cert help get an admission to a B-school? in the forum General 16 years, 9 months ago
Hey Fact Man, Which is a credible BB certification in the industry today? I thought ASQ is a pretty reputed body of knowledge.

Thanks you guys.
Silviu, It takes 2-3 BB Projects and an exam to get an official certification. However, it takes lot of experience, statistical knowledge and problem solving aptitude to become a successful black belt. There are various bodies that offer the certification.. try out ASQ, Quality Council of Indiana etc… -

OK. Thankyou for all the input. Near as we can tell the super was the confused one(oh, how can that be ?!) and created his own operational definition. No one asked him to even do what he did in the first place. The observers and the person doing the job were in sync with their op defs. Anyway, the super was looking at the time to process one line…[Read more]

Stan,
Thanks for the reply. I checked for normality and it is not normally distributed. I can check for other types of distributions and what would be the next step after that.

CSSBB replied to the topic Cpk when using true dimensioning in the forum General 18 years, 2 months ago
Pyzdek’s Guide to SPC, Volume 2, Applications and Special Topics has a discussion, table, and an example on capability of true position tolerances based on the Rayleigh distribution.
Also Northwest Analyst, has built in functions for calculating capabilities of non-normal distributions, including the Rayleigh. -

Check out this article on isixsigma:

Also, if you can get a copy of the March 2003 Quality Progress, look for Continual Improvement Programs and ISO 9001:2000 which addresses Six Sigma.
The theme you will see is how the two complement each other. As far as companies following both ‘concepts’…[Read more] -
CSSBB replied to the topic ZLT in the forum General 18 years, 6 months ago
Sorry, I did not answer the uses of Zlt thoroughly. Usually, when any historical-type data is used to calculate Z it is considered Zlt. Remember, historical data collecetd through time was opened up to exposure by special cause variation and that 1.5 sigma shift. So, when you first calculate your baseline Z, sigma level, and you use historical d…[Read more]

CSSBB replied to the topic ZLT in the forum General 18 years, 6 months ago
Long term Z (Zlt) represents the process performance over time as it is subjected to all the special cause variation that time can throw at it. You will hear reference to the 1.5 std dev shift of the mean through time due to this occurence, .
Short term Z (Zst) is actually sigma level. Sigma level is always expressed as short term z. This is t…[Read more] -

SSS- You are not going to get a number. What you are going to get are anecdotal stories about peoples’ experiences at the companies for which they work (or worked). No one has the answer to the question you are asking. Also, from an analytical standpoint, you are lumping multiple variables together and implying that any one of them associated with…[Read more]

Check out Pyzdek’s Guide to SPC, Volume Two. He discusses the Folded Normal Distribution (Flatness and Perpendicularity), as well as the Rayleigh (True Position).
Also Northwest Analyst http://www.nwasoft.com/qa.htm, calculated capability indices for Folded Normal and Rayleigh (also Weibull). -

Just reinforces my opinion that the probability of two statisticians agreeing with one another is infinitesimally small. It never ceases to amaze me that statisticians can be so certain in their opinions about the science of uncertainty. Jackey:
Best reference on c=0 sampling plans (in my opinion): Zero Acceptance Number Sampling Plans, Fourth Edition published by ASQ Press.
There’s an excellent discussion in this pamphlet about the relationship between c=0 sampling plans and 105E, as well.
