Good question.
I have used 1 way anova in Minitab and used one of the optional comparisons methods for the groups. This provides all the combinations of group comparisons, comparisons with the “control” group or with the “best ofhte rest” (maybe what you are after).

Yeah, I did not know much about relaibility analysis going into my MBB role. If you have Minitab and 100 sets of data, try distribution fitting in Minitab first: stat>reliability/survival>. You can also do some on or two factor regressions to see what affects MTBF.

I agree that the 1/16 inch divisions can be treated as continuous.
I wonder about the Gage R&R results. Did they pick parts over the entire 80-150 inch length range in their study? If so, the % study varaition may be artifically low. If the % P/T is OK (<30%) then you shold be OK.

I dont think you are cheating – just using some engineering judgement!
If you think the full top cycling does affect the sensors accuracy/stability, then you may want to do the full cycling to a least understand this. Maybe run chart 20-30 full cycle measurements.

Minitab website has a macro catalog wiht one that draws normal curves for you. You have to go to website, download macro to your macro folder and run it using the command line editor. Kind of a pain.
