Dear Mike Allen:  I don’t believe I have insulted you or anyone else.  It is others who have done so and tried to impute motives to me.

Dar Charmed 2: Please take a good look at all the thread Charmed has started, before the posts about who he/she is started.  You will see that I have been doing exactly what you wish. With my warmest regards.

Dear Charmed2: You are evading the question I asked you and again going back to who I am. That’s a moot point.  It is the offensive nature of some of the posts that I am talking about and others are talking about. You don’t seem to have a problem.  When you speak up the next we see another offensive post, I will know.

OK Charmed2 or CharmedX, or whatever you want to be:
Since you asked me a straight question, I will give you a straight answer. I am getting very tired all this prurient interest in whether I am Reigle Stewart, Laxman, Laxmanan, etc. I consider it to be an extremely hostile attitude towards me, or for that matter any poster. This is unbecoming of…[Read more]

    Dear John J. McDonough:
Wow! This is a major break through already. So, Charmpion I shall be.  How many weeks of vacation do I get and what are the perks?  I don’t mind using my lap top and/or palm top even when I am on vacation (lounging on some beach) and can tell people what to do.  I usually perform better in those surroundings. In my office…[Read more]

Dear Jim:  OK, I will help you. I know nothing, but I am good. I know how to tell people what they should do and get them to do it, with charm. Can I start as a Charmpion may be? Any openings?  Feel free to contact me.  I will quit what I am doing and come on board.

Dear Jim:  This is getting too polite and civil.

  • Hi Peppe:  I am just looking at the example (see reply to Andy U) where a defective enters the process, the defect is then cured, or removed, as the defective goes through the process. It is just a different way of thinking. Yes, it is improvement like you say, but in a different way, because we start with a defective. I thought about it only aft…[Read more]

  • Dear Andy U:  No practical experience there. Rgs.

  • Dear Andy U:
This was a few years ago when I was working in a foundry that makes sand castings and knew nothing about Six Sigma. I was just an engineer on assignment from a different division. I got friendly with the plant managers, whose help I needed anyway to get my job done.  This became a secondary assignment. In this process, the sand is li…[Read more]

  • Dear Andy U:
Your example is an excellent one – if there are defects coming in they just keep flowing down the line. In some ways, I did misunderstood your Japanese quotation, I thought you were mocking me (with your chicken sh1t no way to make soup story) for being so foolish as to think that defects made can become less than zero.
    Let me gi…[Read more]

  • Dear Peppe and Andy U and Selina:
If you both use some imagination you will be able to see that there are “real” processes in “real” manufacturing processes where exactly what I have noted can happen. Alas, no one can see that
Defects In = Defects Out + Defects made
also applies in such process es and we can have Defects Made < 0.  With my…[Read more]

  • Dear Andy U:
Again, again, Andy U, who said we must only follow what was invented at Motorola, whenever or wherever that may be? Please get off that trap. That’s point one.
Second point.  I do think DPO is a legitimate metric.  There is a world of a difference between DPU and DPO. Let me try this. Let’s say my doctors say that I am a very si…[Read more]

  • Dear Andy U:
Again, my sincere thanks.  If I had taken anything personally, I would not have responded to your posts.
Having said that, there comes a point where disruptive, rude, and potentially hurtful conduct cannot and must not be tolerated. Schools and colleges and many other institutions will fall apart if we tolerate, or tacitly t…[Read more]

  • Dear Andy U:
If you read my posts carefully, you will see that we are in full agreement on the point that you have mentioned below.
In answer to the question you brought – use %defective or DPU. DPO is not sufficently general to be applicable to every industry. My final advice is to GO LEAN ……
When I say “Parts” or “Units”, it is the same…[Read more]

  • Dear Andy U:
Thank you, sincerely, from the bottom of my heart. Out of my deep respect for you (I know about your Motorola connections and that you worked with Taguchi himself, based on my reading of the material posted right here on this website), and mindful of the very professional and civil nautre of your post, I have chosen to reply. However…[Read more]

  • Charmed replied to the topic Simple Question…? in the forum General 16 years, 4 months ago

    Dear Peppe:
You say,  From your point of view the data fall within rules of 3 sigma and for you are OK.
I never said that.  Please read my earlier post carefully.  You jumped after I talked about where the process should be centered.  So, I said, you have your view and I have mine. But, my view was not what you have stated here. Again, with my w…[Read more]

  • Dear Andy U:
Do I necessarily have to follow the current Six Sigma Dogma? I don’t think so. That’s what I hear from you in other posts when it comes to 1.5 sigma shift and what you lament SS has now become. Do I have to follow what they did at Motorola? Then, it appears you have not not read my posts carefully. I am trying to do something else…[Read more]
