Andy, I absolutly agree with you. I plan on conducting the VOC and a VOE (Voice Of Engineer).
That being said, do you combine these in the first house?
Or do you do these in the second house? (which makes a little more sense I think).
Then what is the output from this house?

    I got that part.
What I really want is to talk to someone who has actually completed one of these things (with real results). It seems to me that everyone that I talk to Starts them and never Finishes them. My guess here is that they (like me) know all the book stuff and get the concept but don’t know how this much work can have the desired ROI.
I am going to do one of these for a major initiative and don’t need to be winging the results. If I can’t see the goal clearly I am not going to be able to teach that to the team.

I have run into this in the past. What happened was that I tried to show time savings Finance came back and said that if I couldn’t cut the head there was no savings. However, there are a number of jobs that are not getting done, so I assigned a couple of administrative tasks that were slipping through the cracks as additional duties to the now less burdened staff which not only allowed me to assign Cost Avoidance dollars for what it would of cost to hire someone part-time to do these duties, but it also empowered the staff to be more involved in more of the project (giving me the less tangible, but no less important, Employee Satisfaction gain).
Another idea is that if you increase production and actually produce the additional units you can show profit for those additional items as the benefit of the project.
My advice is that you buddy up to a good bean counter and see how they think. If you can get finance to buy into it then you shouldn’t have a problem selling it (at least where I work anyway 8O)
