    Do you know why you have a long cycle time?Β  Most likely, you have some variation, but you also likely have various forms of process waste.Β  One approach you might try is to approach the waste reduction.Β  This is often easier to identify and may produce some quick wins.Β  Sometimes, you can achieve enough timesavings with SMED, inventory planning (kitting, point of use, etc.), reduction in walking, and standard work to impact the total cycle time significantly.Β

    The principle often used in these events is to capture data such as a cycle time measurement, and a spaghetti diagram, then making quick improvements.Β  It of course takes follow-up, but it is effective inΒ many situations.
    Β DonΒ’t forget to understand what you are attempting to reduce prior to attempting this.
