    Pam,
    Hello and Happy New Year.
Out of curiosity, have you started this project? If so, which area of credentialing has warranted the most attention in terms of quality improvement. It has been my understanding that a number of institutions have a difficult time with adverse clinical occurrences and malpractice. Do you share this observation?
    Regards,
    Eugene

    Josh,
Yes. Acquiring a green belt or black belt certification would increase your marketability in my opinion. As the nursing shortage continues, q/a, pm, and q/c opportunities will also be available. This assumption is based onΒ  reports by the American College of Nursing (2009) and Department of Labor Report (2009).

    Elvis,
As I mentioned before, Six Sigma is a new animal in long-term care. You could possibly check with your respective city and state agencies that conduct annual inspections of long term care facilities in your state. But, it is highly unlikely that the state level has adopted this method of quality assurance.

    Dash,
I am fully aware of the economical and human resource related constraints confronting pathology labs. Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement methodologies have also played a critical factor in this scenario. However, a descent baseline for your concept is the American College of Pathologists. In addition, there are Six Sigma articles that relate to quality indicators in lab environments on High Beam.

    Grayson,
Hello. I believe so. Poisson distribution process may assume that the probability of events is small enough to avoid having multiple events at the same time. In your particular case of patient discharge rates; one may also preclude that an expected number of occurences may only depend on the length of the interval over which they are counted.
    Hope this helps.

    Elvis,
This is a very interesting area you are persuing. SNF’s are challenging environments with limited resources. So I understand if the primary stakeholders have no understaning of what you are attempting to accomplish. May I suggest a tool on stakeholder management which may assist. http://www.maxwideman.com/issacons4/iac1440/index.htm

John,You have an interesting task at hand. My initial thought in terms of survey development is a cross-sectional with Likert Scale forced responses. This would allow you to perform a 2-tailed T test, when examing the mean and determining statistical significance @ p

    Chilly,
I presume, I was one of the lucky ones in terms ofΒ SixSigma sponsorship. At the time I was employed at one of “Big 4” accounting firms. In auditing, SixSigma methodologies have been utilized, so my employer felt the sponsorship was appropriate at that particular time.
I thought it was interesting on your approach to this particular matter, by reachingΒ out to the not-for-profit sector for possible sponsorship. Depending on your area of expertise, particularly project management…will depend what types of responses you receive from this particular sector.
If you are active in an alumni association (e.g. Association of MBA’s); these particular organizations may provide further guidance.
    Good luck,

    Scott,
Could you a bit a little more specific.Β
The probability of an outcome for a particular event is a number telling us how likely a particular outcome is to occur. This number is the ratio of the number of ways the outcome may occur to the number of total possible outcomes for the event. Probability is usually expressed as a fraction or decimal. Since the number of ways a certain outcome may occur is always smaller or equal to the total number of outcomes, the probability of an event is some number from 0 through 1.

Standardizing the term “quality” is a very interesting concept. Consequently, “quality” has many translations in the business environment. In terms of SixSigma and quality improvement; it is my belief that “quality” in this particular arena has several implications. The Principles of Continuous Quality Improvement or (CQI): appears to embrace a commanilty of the basic shift from-from focus on the end product or service to process. This is where SixSigma is unique.
Moreover, when standards are met, new goals are set to improve standards. Incidentally, when standarts are not met, action plans are identified and carried out to make improvements (Ohio State University, 2000; Harvard University 2005).

As a physician and a Green Belt, I have to agree with Jim’s response. Moreover, you will find Breyfogle’s text quite useful for a your field of Radiology. Especially, practice management issues that you mentioned in your message.
