To be honest, I don’t think there is any magic answer. I would go out to the factory floor and do time studies so I could understand the data. Maybe it is bimodal because the second shift has fewer distractions (No managers around).

Sounds like an intrinsically non-normal variable. (due to tool wear?)
The only way to expect normality is with real time feedback in the process were you correct for tool wear.
Even with feedback / correction, you still might experience non normality if you are over-correcting.
Going back to the question that intitiate this post:
If your…[Read more]Craig replied to the topic Six Sigma – attacking variation or mean and variation in the forum General 10 years, 9 months ago
Improved Cpk from my experience has been achieved by minimizing variation.
This is done through process characterization and optimization, controlling input variables, etc. No simple task!Although a mean shift towards target can improve Cpk, I have rarely found processes with these types of quick fixes. (Although one of my projects where this…[Read more]

It looks like your data is bi-modal
I’d say that is affecting your normality test moreso than rounding

can you post your data?

That seems unrealistic. If your population of potential hires are all in the unemployment line, that is one thing. If they are currently employed, they would most likely give the current employer a 2 week notice which leaves you a remaining time of 0 days for your recruiting. I would keep it at 4 weeks and try to improve the quality of your…[Read more]

Please DEFINE the problem better. 14 days for recruitment….what does that mean? You actually want someone interviewed, sent an offer letter, and sitting at a computer within 14 days of the creation of the job opening?

I have seen interactions, but in the context of the GRR with Factor1 = Operator and Factor 2 = part, they are “interesting” to explain!
It is usually a case where the measurements are not taken in a random order. An operator makes a setup error and measures the same part 3 times in a row with the same set-up error. Very serendipitous to say th…[Read more]Craig replied to the topic Honest Gauge Study – Stan and others in the forum General 10 years, 11 months ago
Please identify the correct statement below
a) 15.7 + 17.8 = 23.7, not 33.5
b) 2.4 + 3.2 = 5.6
c) 5.6 + 94.4 = 100
d) 23.7 + 97.2 = 100, not 120.9
e) b and c are correct
These values come from Wheelers article on page 12.

You might want to do some homework before stating this mumbo jumbo about unprecedented steps. I read that Toyota said these same pedals were not a safety threat in 2007 and 2008.

The recall involves more than 8 million vehicles globally. How can this only be a perception problem?

Depends which other threads are being considered a nominees.
The title of this one is intriguing. It goes back and forth between a sitcom and a soap, so that might ruin its chances.Craig replied to the topic Stan, the myth, the man, the lies….. in the forum General 10 years, 11 months ago
Is this a soap opera?

hbgb B^2,
Can you share your DOE with the forum communiy? It would be interesting to see how you designed it and how your response variables were measured. The validation of project affidavit seems like a yes/no sort of a response, but how didou obtain this data? Not sure how you quantify rigor.

Interesting…
Now you have a repeatable and reproducible measurement system comprised of two perfectly correlated measurement tools, and they are different!
Just out of curiosity, what is the tolerance on the parts and what is the range span of parts in production that you chose for the study? What was the % RR as compared to the tolerance…[Read more]Craig replied to the topic MSA paired test in the forum General 11 years, 1 month ago
sounds like you are evaluating repeatabilty/ reproducibility as well as bias between you measurement systems.
-what do the % values represent below? (% tolerance, % study variation,?)
– how did you select your range of samples?
– what was your total sample size?

Mike,
I recall alot of hype about one of the few high volume products back in the day….FMU139.
Did you see any differences in the six sigma rollouts between Comm and Tactical? Recall that I was sheltered in PWF trying to make good boards for all to use!!! Polyimide, fusion bonded PTFE multilayers….what an interesting job to say the least!
