Heartland replied to the topic Minitab control charts: test 2 question in the forum General 14 years, 2 months ago
In a control chart up or down are both bad in most cases. (yes, I know some things 0 is best and lower would be better, and others most is best example for low might be time to fill an order, or most might be good product produced per hour). Even in those limited cases you need to be careful. For example: if you decrease time to fill a…[Read more]

I usually agree to some degree with Stan – In this case I completely agree.

I agree with the others that posted about not monitoring the people in this way.
That being said the problem you are having (which applies to processes not just people as in this example) is that you are looking at the control limits. The control limits are calculated based on the data. The control limits do not relate to the sp…[Read more] -

I didn’t take your comments as critical – in fact I took them as supporting. I was attempting to say I agree with what you were saying. -

After having read your post I think the modifications you suggest to my post are due to my typing quickly and not filling in the detail. We use 5% for the team not the BB. The 5% is for hard savings as approved and verified by finance. We use a $ equivalent rating for non financial projects and projects with large soft savings com…[Read more] -

Heres a not so new concept give them a percentage of what they save the company. If a team saves the company $100,000 give the team $5,000 (to be split evenly between the team members). In addition to the cash make it part of the GB/BBs review.

I have to agree with SS Shooter
Taking a job you dont like leads to a lot of unhappy days.
If only. Those must be the two saddest words in the world.

Heartland replied to the topic TAKT TIME Clarification in the forum General 14 years, 6 months ago
Tom
Takt time is a separate animal from turn around. Think of it like this:
You have to make 24 units (demand) per day. There are 24 hours available per day. Takt time is 1 hour. That means your process needs to turn out 1 product every hour to meet demand. You might have a process that takes 3 days to complete, but still turns out a prod…[Read more] -

I agree we are not for off from one another. For the example I gave I still believe that the adjustment is not a defect heres why
Think of the adjustment as a step in the defined process such as bolting on a widget. The tuning or adjustment in question is to select the correct channel on a multi-channel piece of equip…[Read more] -

Usually your statement is correct, but not always. We (used to) have a product that was installed through the use of large amounts of heat (think similar to welding). During the install the heat changes the characteristics of the item being installed. Tuning was done as second and separate step in the process. The process perf…[Read more] -

I almost agree with Dr Scott
If your process is designed to have an installation step (where no attempt to achieve the correct values is made) and a step to make the adjustments (what you refer to as test) then I would say that it is part of your process as designed and not a failure. I would, of course, re-design the process so that…[Read more] -

Airworthy
You should also consider the cost of storage space if the material in question is not stored in buildings owned by your company. If, for example, you pay a monthly fee per pallet or you can eliminate some leased storage that cost should also be added to the number calculated using the information from the previous post.
