First identify your pain/gain area ( Missed SLA/ Targets, Team Productivity etc) then apply six sigma methodology to the identified problem for solving the same.

If corrective action cannot be avoided & is necessary Do u mean to say that ur process is not capable of delivering what u want finally as the end product? In that case I think u have to follow a DMADV ( DFSS ) methodology & come up with a new process that can deliver what u want.

What about Gage R & R of the inspection process? have you performed? If not then please do . It will help a lot to understand whether your inspection process to detect defects is repeatable & reproducible .since your inspections are visual, carry out an attribute Gage R& R.
