    Larry,
No offence but I would not worry about binary logisitc regression….as mentioned in a previous post, use it as a rework loop, but be sure to capture the critical information (% rework, uptime, etc…). When you highlight these “issues” they will most certainly lead to Kaizens.
    All the best…..

  • I know there are alot of providers out there. I did some benchmarking and found that Six Sigma Academy, albeit pretty expensive, has the best training program. We sent a few people from my company and they both enjoyed the training and were able to apply the learnings to achieve results.I think it depends on what you want out of it…if you just…[Read more]

  • Dean,
Don’t think anyone’s answered your questions about dates and times in Excel.  There is no trivial canned solution that I’m aware of.  My personal preference with this type of problem is to write VBA macros as opposed to ‘complicated count/if-then statements.’  Shouldn’t be too hard.  Might even find someone willing to do some e-coaching on…[Read more]

    Hi,
You mentioned that the standard work times are some what different depending on if the product is new or not. I would suggested that you start with a Product Family Matrix and go from there. Trying to incorporate too many “product types” into 1 VSM leads to complexity. You may find that your processes are very different and that you need…[Read more]

Noticed that half your non-zero delay times are in exactly 1 week increments.  Is there some reason to expect that from the nature of your process?  I believe that this could complicate the analysis of everything from normality to capability, but I’d like to hear more on that from the experts.  How do you deal with highly quantized data?

    Pip,

I’ve recently run a project on that topic.  We were fortunate enough to completely eliminate the data entry by writing some new code (the previous process involved manually moving data between two electronic forms that didn’t talk to each other).  I also tried (and failed) to find the kind of background information that you’re looki…[Read more]

  • Neo replied to the topic Curvilinear Correlation in the forum General 14 years, 9 months ago

    Kiran,
The example I spoke of is the density of salt solutions as correlted with the salt concentration.  You can find the raw data in any CRC handbook, and if you do a residual analysis you will see second degree (curvilinear) correlation as well as third and fourth degree contributions.

If you’re interested in something that can acutally b…[Read more]

    Kiran,
Are you looking for real world examples, or an actual dataset?  I have an  interesting real world example with third and even fourth order interactions, but I’m not sure it’d be the kind of thing you’re looking for.  Have you tried Google?

    Rick,
You’ve gotten some good real-world advice but I’m not sure they answered your question.  All you need to calculate a Cpk is a mean and standard deviation of your process (plus your spec limits).  I also understood from your question that your choices were 50 parts or 32 parts.  Since standard deviation goes as the inverse square root of th…[Read more]

I would walk the process but I can’t as it is a case study that I am working on. It is not a school course or anything like that but something that I am trying to learn so I can hope apply it to the small company that I am working for.
    cheers

    Rohan,
I’m very interested in your problem, since I am running a Black Belt project on a similar issue.  My problem is that we are paying very highly trained scientists to perform manual data entry.  Love to be able to outsource it!  ;-)
Your problem boils down to a DFLSS problem.  Assuming that you do not have a quality, speed or price iss…[Read more]

  • Neo replied to the topic Homogeniety of Variance in the forum General 15 years, 8 months ago

    Tarang,
Yes, you will have to conduct an HOV test before Anova. Reason: Anova assumes homogeniety in the variances of the factors you are testing. If you are using Minitab, refer to the Bartlett’s test.
If your HOV fails, then you will do a Mood Median test.
    Thanks, – Neo

    Hi Jason,
I am not a Six Sigma Expert, but have an exposure to the kind of project you have undertaken. In my experience, besides the traits of an individual, more importantly we need to look into all those factors, X’s, that lead an employee to make such a decision. Most of these Xs would the softer elements like job dissatisfaction, conduct of…[Read more]

  • doma,
I understand you do not test the alternate hypothesis. My mistake in the posting. All we are trying to do is to see if statistically, there is enough evidence to reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis.
My question is more to do with the p value. How do you interpret the numeric p-value?
