You do realize that these two tools are not really comparable, as they perform different (arguably related, but different) functions?

Help is what I was attempting to provide…but you obviously did not want to listen.
On #1 in your response. In injection molding, or any multiple stream process, you do not have homogeneity of the sample if you take random (or in this case, not so random) samples across 10 cavities. When you say that you are taking 10 samples from 5 s…[Read more] -

I tried to resist this statement, as I think Darth answered the question, but I can’t…just because your output units are in the 1000’s does NOT make that continuous data…
And if you are limiting time to “buckets” of 1 hour intervals, you have made it discrete as well!
Chi squared test anyone?

I tend to agree with Darth…they are not mutually exclusive, you can have both. They do have different tendencies…the PhD toward academia and the MBB toward industry. I also tend to agree with Stan…that titles are not that important, skills/capabilities/results are what is important.
I ended up as an MBB first and then decided t…[Read more] -

Your niceness completely diffuses my answer! I was going to say that the following factors, in my humble opinion, matter the most…
(1) Time of day
(2) Day of Week
(3) Mood of person
(4) Weather
(5) Geography
(6) Whether I feel fat today

(1) It must be interesting to be a BB for a major “airliner”…I didn’t know aircraft required their own BB!
(2) ISO 9000, TQM, Six Sigma…all have their uses…sounds like you could use a “refresher”…or maybe just some basic training…

Much obliged…this is exactly what I am trying to say. My only contention…and I understand what everyone has said about my option of doing only 2 sided tests (yes, they sometimes are too rigid when you are only concerned about 1 side).
But, my original contention is simply that, in this situation, you should put the greater than…[Read more] -

I can agree with this, I have just always found it to be more correct when you add the “greater than” (in this case) to the null. Your statement of “In other words one tailed tests assume differences are only of interest in one direction and they assume you know which way you are looking when you compute them.”…contains a lot of…[Read more] -

Sorry, but I believe that I am correct. I did not have ready access to that particular Montgomery book, but I did look into a couple of his other statistics books…and what you state is as he says it. That does not make it correct.
In a one tail test, you still have to cover all possibilities for the decisions. Those possibilities are…[Read more] -
Obiwan replied to the topic Central limit theorem average of averages in the forum General 13 years, 3 months ago
Chip…please clarify…
(1) Are you looking at 365 data points, each averaged across one full day?
(2) Which distribution is non-normal? The individual data points? Or the averages?
Typically, if you were averaging more than about 30 individual data points per day, the distribution of the averages would be normalized due to the CLT.

As with many threads on this bulletin board, this has quickly become tiring. Regression simply does not show causality…end of discussion. If you persist in believing that, please do so at your own risk…and you would be the only professional (?) in the Six Sigma world that does believe it.

So…let me get this straight…you want someone here to provide you with a presentation on idle time so that you can claim credit for it to your boss (or your boss’s boss or whatever) and then he can present it at a seminar as his own?
