MSA = Measurement system analysis
R&R = Reproducibility & Repeatability (= they measure the precision or reliability of measurments across people and over time)
Repeatability = Person A can repeat the exact same measurement of the same object over time
Reproducibility = Person A and Person B come up with the exact same measurement for the…[Read more] -

Pablo,
I am also into a project very similar to you. But I have one question. How big is the human aspect in your process? The reason why I ask this is, our process is mostly manual (only very few automations) and the population handling this process is abt 1000 people. I wonder if at all it is possible to bring in zero defect by empowering…[Read more] -

Dear Jeff Fuchs,
Very good and to the point explanation.
By the way can u pls tell me where to get the framework u r mentioning about assessing a group’s stance, as our company has just started implementing Six sigma and we are also into Lean manufacturing.

Kirk,
Unfortunately the score is for output only (Good/Bad). I did the analysis using Minitab and unable to make any inference with the Kappa statistics it shows as I do not have any idea abt Kappa statistics and what it tells!!!!!

Hi Arvind,
Thanks. Exactly that’s what we have done after we got this score of 15%. In our analysis we found that inconsistency is more between appraisers. We would like to repeat the process after the training is completed. What I wd like to know is whether we can get a score of 100% agreement with a population like 30 nos.

Hi Magesh,
Thanks for the reply. But ur input is correct in case of the measurement is done through a device. In my case the measurement is visual inspection. i.e. the supervisors inspect the quality of the garments stitched and decide on whether it is OK or NOT OK. What I am asking is, is it enough if I get an attribute agreement score as 7…[Read more] -

Sure. What types of defects are you going after? In most of the call center projects that I have worked on, the output (and input) data has been contiuous – duration, etc. This doesn’t reduce the efectiveness of an FMEA, but makes the various kinds of regression and DOE more immediately useful. Happy to help – with a little info, I can provi…[Read more]

Earlier in this thread, someone noted that the “talent” in financial Six Sigma was much weaker than Six Sigma in manufacturing. Unfortunately, chat forums encourage those kinds of comments, and that notion is sad and ridiculous.
I am not a big fan of these kinds of generalizations. From my own experience, I have interviewed numerous MBBs & BB…[Read more] -

Tony –
Are you looking for a textbook response to help you in your own application or are you looking for something (examples, etc.) that will help you speak to it?

Who are your customers?
What do they consider to be defects?
Have you quantified the opportunity?
Now you have a baseline for your next SS project. If you don’t understand the above questions, I suggest you go through some training.
