UoCS makes some excellent suggestions however you must be very careful to assure yourself the “y’s” you are tryiong to move are really a function of the “x’s”. That is, in this field what may appear to be cause and effect are not really related. That is, because you once found a good candidate from jobs.com you may not be able to repeat that. In t…[Read more]

Is there any reason this could not have been resolved with a communication between your friend and Ninesigma? Why did it become a post in this forum? Feels a lot like an advertisement.

John, aren’t you glad that approach isn’t taken with dentists, attorneys, accountants, appraisers, real estate agents, project managers, commercial property managers and the hundreds of other professions? Why should we not make an effort to professionalize our industry?

You make a number of good points yet I would challenge you on “certification”. We have no standard in the LSS industry so your references to that issue are simply your interpretation of what “certification” should mean. This is one of our major deficiencies – each person has their own definition. About time we agreed and standardized – don’t you think?

Agreed hb. That is the only practical, time-sensitive solution to being unemployed. Now is not the time to be prissy; deficiencies can be corrected later – once you’re eating again.

So john, how about suggesting a solution?
Apparently it’s your belief that Jason should attend an open enrollment BB class with a known training firm, cost around $5000 +/-, then find multiple projects to conduct with non-profits or consenting companies. This will take, what, 14 to 20 months. Then he’ll be a competent BB and can get a good job.…[Read more] -

Pal, there’s a great deal of merit to your position relative to completing a project. That is, one should demonstrate the ability to apply the knowledge.
However, the challenge comes in moving from concept to application. Please define what is acceptable – one project or more, how many tools, DOE or not, how is the “project” validated (who do you…[Read more] -

Yes, this idea is great in theory – but difficult to pull off. Doing a project involves, typically, a significant amount of proprietary information. Even when you volunteer to conduct the project for no charge many will not open their treasure chests. Non-profits might be more open however you likely will need to be very close to someone in the…[Read more]

Post your email address and you will likely get some good input. Try to play this out in the forum and it will immediately detriorate into a slugfest. Too many vested interests and self-appointed watchdogs.

Tyler, not being part of a corporate deployment of SS you have rather limited choices; online, open enrollment or self-instruction. Online and open enrollment programs may have project assistance, or mentoring, available however you will find this very expensive. You may self-instruct and do a project or not.
You can then seek certification from…[Read more] -

Geoff, thanks for your input. So, depending on your product, it might not be unreasonable to expect a 1% reduction from 1.5% in scrap; that would be a significant number. Our scrap dollars as a percent of sales is declining; but of course we have problematic reasons for scrap.
We have been using Crosby’s QES system to train everyone…[Read more] -

Sounds like typical problems seen in a number of businesses. The fact that you see them is the biggest part of solving them. There have been some good previous recommendations regarding how to start.
You as the business owners need to determine what your goals are and where you think the biggest impact will be to the bottom line. You ca…[Read more]

Rj replied to the topic BB/MBB Reporting Structure in the forum General 19 years, 9 months ago
In our organization we acutually have a seperate team for our Black Belts with a director overseeing all the projects. We then work with every champion in our organization and have a MBB for mentoring. This structure allows us to work for all business units, instead of just one particular champion. It allows us as Black Belts to understand th…[Read more]

what if you move your B/E hard limit up to 7500 from 5000. if your test market can satisfy the new break even @ 7500, does that statistically equate to 3.4 chance in 1 million that you will not succeed ?
or am i stretching the six sigma out of its applicability?
