Robin replied to the topic Six Sigma, Six Sigma companies in the forum General 14 years, 6 months ago
Thank you for your comments QualityColorado, but I would think a case study outlining how to apply Six Sigma within a training company would be more interesting than case study dealing with theoretical Pizza production.Regards,

Robin replied to the topic Sample size…Why 30? in the forum General 14 years, 7 months ago
So does the number 30 have significance in the use of an sample for an arbitrary population or is it just a number that “seems” to work because no one has actually tested it.

Robin replied to the topic Sample size…Why 30? in the forum General 14 years, 7 months ago
My background is in mathematical statistics but several years past, and I tried to read through this thread which appears to be it is quite complicated, but the actual question does not seem to be answered. I am also new to 6 sigma, but did a google on 30/sample size and this appeared to have a good discussion so I will rephrase the original…[Read more]

Robin replied to the topic Does Fedex or UPS use Six Sigma? If so, How? in the forum General 14 years, 7 months ago
But they must be doing something right to deliver millions of packages each year. If its not LSS what is it?

Has this situation changed into 2007? Are these businesses looking at LSS?

Thanks for rapid response, appreciate your observations. I was not looking at relative comparisons but an absolute measure. So using your example could a skew of -1 or -3 be classified as “strongly skewed”? At what value (if possible) can you draw the line and say this data is “strongly-skewed”?

Hi Annon,
I am trying to represent the 3rd operator into the Value Stream Map.
Also, if there are any techniques to deal with so-much variability in operators
Thanx

Robin replied to the topic ED patient Time in Department (TID) project in the forum Healthcare 17 years ago
I recently completed a patinting wait time reduction study at a community clinic. Wait time was 1 to 8 our and we saw over 50,000 encounter a year we only utilize 18 out of 24 exam room. It was a walk in clinic where people line up at the door before we opened. The registration desk could not process the patients quick enough to reduce patient wai…[Read more]

I am also doing a patient reducing wait time. I also had to use lean six simga. Our walk in patients load far exceeded schedule patients. The time study showed the problem was at the registration desk and patient waited up to 99 minutes before they were registered. We first had to stablize the situation by finding out what the patients wanted. …[Read more]

Robin replied to the topic calculating control limits in the forum Healthcare 17 years, 6 months ago
The control limit show the variation from the average. The Upper and lower limits are usually + or – three sigma to show variance from the average. The equation is UCL over LCL =x +or- A(square)time the range average. A(square) can be found in standard books on the statistical control of quality. The value of A(square) =0.729 .Anything higher…[Read more]

Robin replied to the topic Anova in the forum General 19 years, 2 months ago
Anova compare confidence interval for the means. If there is an overlap between the two intervals, then you cannot state that there is a différence. However, if you are using Minitab, the confidence interval is based on the pooled standard deviation. If you are using Minitab, try Interval plot for mean, with confidence interval at 95%. If ther…[Read more]

Robin replied to the topic ASQ conference in the forum General 20 years, 3 months ago
I attended, too – and I was disappointed with parts of the conference as well. I thought that some of the presentations were very weak.
“Six Sigma in Sales & Marketing”, undoubtedly the session with the most intriguing title, was the biggest disappointment of the conference. Conducting fake fishbone exercises with the audience, dividing them in 8…[Read more]
