By the way if you ever get into the family plan for xilinx or tmobil or verizon, you will discover that inspection has not been totally elliminated from the motorola production method, because you will get to reject 2 out of six cell phones for either internal charge defects, or defective battery.  So you are doing the inspection for them.
Before they were six sigma.  Somehow they adopted lean six-sigma, and now it seems they are only lean.

Well that is just another bug in six sigma, which is a doctrine cooked up to make people in management participate, in a structured project environment.  Never mind that you will probably solve the problems for the green belt, what matters is that he will get the money and the credit, and the managers will look good because they took care of a problem using six sigma.

The green belt must know every thing that you need for statistical quality, plus regular mechanical engineering, other than just about every knowledge of engineering possible, or at least have a buildable understanding.  A manufacturing engineer will find himself limited and frustrated by the items away from manufacturing.  But if you are a good manufacturing engineer, who centers his process, catches all fliers and failsafes his process, you will have a great 6 sigma index.
