Stephen Curtis replied to the topic converting likert mean VOC surveys to 6 sigma? in the forum General 19 years, 11 months ago
You could use a 4 point Likert Scale (no centre-point, forced decision) and score all that are “strongly disatissfied” & “somewhat disatissified” as being defects, ie something that you don’t want to see. This can then be treated as attribute data.

Stephen Curtis replied to the topic Why is Six Sigma Training so Expensive??? in the forum General 20 years, 6 months ago
To see greenbelt training as purely a cost is shortsighted. It’s an investment which must be weighed up against the returns.
Importantly though, you should be asking why you are paying external consultants for greenbelt training. This should be part of the MBB and BB roles. -
Stephen Curtis replied to the topic how I have to answer in the forum General 20 years, 6 months ago
When you consider adopting six sigma within an organisation you need to think about how you will resource the projects and the returns. Traditionally up to 2% of an organisation may be working on projects as blackbelts fulltime, plus project team members and possibly greenbelts spending up to 20% of their time. One could question the wisdom of…[Read more]

Stephen Curtis replied to the topic Looking for local Chinese consultant on Six Sigma in the forum General 20 years, 6 months ago
Are you looking for an individual or an organisation? What are you expecting to achieve? There are only a couple of organisations who are actively promoting although quite a few mnc trained MBB’s and BB’s.

Stephen Curtis replied to the topic Quality Team Building in Japan in the forum General 20 years, 6 months ago
Lean (Toyota Manufacturing System) has been arround for a while. Six Sigma has been adopted by a number of companies in Japan, both Japanese and Multi-Nationals.
Sony, Nissan are two Japanese examples whilst GE, Caterpillar and JP Morgan are notable US companies who have also successfully implemented Six Sigma in Japan.
ASI (American Supplier…[Read more] -
Stephen Curtis replied to the topic Gage Studies in the forum General 20 years, 6 months ago
Gage R&R is intended to be a study to measure the measurement error in measurement systems.
We look at two components, gage variation (repeatability) and operator variation (reproducability).
The 10% rule tells us that If a measurement instrument does not discriminate to 10% of the part tolerance, the measurement instrument has no feasibility…[Read more] -
Stephen Curtis replied to the topic Every six sigma project MUST reach 3.4 DPMO? in the forum General 20 years, 6 months ago
In general there is no need to set an absolute target of 3.4dpmo which in many cases is an aspirational goal.
Each six sigma project should have an improvement target as a measure of its success. We may set a project goal of 80% reduction in defects, a 1 sigma shift, or 4.5 sigma (LT).
In manufacturing, a process yield target doesn’t chang…[Read more]
