I didn’t recognize the acronym either so I typed ‘CFT’ into the search window and selected Search: Entire Site. It returned several hits, including Cross Functional Team (e.g. CFT). Hope this helps…

We had some grad students come measure the cost of investigating a problem related to receiving inspection. They estimated that, for our product-development sort of organization, it cost (conservatively) about $500 to resolve an incoming inspection issue.

Same thread as the other two for me. We went through four weeks of training (one week a month for four months) working out way through the DMAIC process with our first project. Once we have two completed projects we become black belt certified.
To become a master black belt is a promotion here, which also requires more training to be certified. -

In your discussion about using the DMAIC process to improve things, perhaps you could get plastic cars that you rev before letting them travel across the floor and have them brainstorm on improving the distance it travels. Or getting the car to travel straight.

Since I work at a corporate office, most all projects we have are transactional. We’ve done Billing System (reduced the number of days in the cycle and streamlined processes); Inappropriate Benefits Coverage (reduce the number of days it takes new hires to call in their benefits choices, correct a system error which reduced the number of…[Read more]

Dunne replied to the topic Why would I hire a 6 sigma Consultant or start program in the forum General 20 years, 4 months ago
As you mentioned–watch who you hire! Please don’t stereotype trainers into that group “those who can’t–train” crud–there are schleps in every profession. Unfortunately, someone (your company) didn’t do their homework before hiring the slob.

Our company’s first wave were trained by the Academy. While the education everyone received was high quality–they weren’t as responsive for transactional black belts. So the following waves of black belt candidates were trained in-house and the curriculum was customized to best fit our situation.
If you regularly follow the forum, some peo…[Read more] -

Failure Mode: Company still paying ASO fees and Insurance premiums for employees that no longer work for the company
Failure Effect (how the above will affect us) paying premiums in error; paying claims in error; suppliers giving us false error reports; query results would be in error; former employee receives matching 401K contribution and…[Read more] -

Stan you seem to be quite negative in most of your postings! People post to the forum because they WANT assistance. As a former educator, people learn best when they are treated with respect and not sarcasm and ridicule.
Don’t be a snob and share your knowledge and good expertise! -

We use an 11-column spreadsheet for our transactional control plan. Some columns do not apply in some situations. Columns are from left to right: process step; characteristic/parameter; is it CTQ, CTC or CTD?; specification/requirement; measurement method; sample size; frequency; who measures; where recorded; decision rules corrective act…[Read more]

Gary your comments are way off target. If your company follows the Six Sigma philosophy, every project would save at least $250K if the project was properly defined.
And in answer to the original question posted, our company does not replace people who have been promoted to black belt status. All managers have to sign off that the person will n…[Read more] -

Jim –
Our first wave of Black Belts got trained by the Academy using their format as described by someone else in this post. Our second wave and subsequent black belts have been trained by people within our organization (specifically hired by the company’s training institute). We offer classes specifically for transactional black belts (…[Read more] -

1. Some projects are defined for us by the Master Black Belts and others are not. This is a work in progress as we’ve only been on Six Sigma for 1 1/2 years.
2. The managers, directors and officers define the projects initially and sometimes we smooth and refine.
3. Depends — I personally have had to do both.
4. Generally, a black belt…[Read more] -
Dunne replied to the topic How do FMEA and Control Plan fit together? in the forum General 20 years, 11 months ago
With the FMEA you and your team narrow in on the numerous failures/problems, prioritize their importance (RPN) and begin with solutions to resolve the failures/problems.
The Control Plan is basically your working document guiding you and your team through making those recommended solutions to resolve your problems/failures. You decide which…[Read more]
