As a former Motorola employee of 15 yrs and trained Black belt thru Moto U; I know it is dependent on which dept within the company whether on not 6-sigma is successful, some do not even practice 6-sigma. My spouse was laid off from the flat panel display division; they had problems with the life cycle of the product. No one within the dept to hi…[Read more]

Withheld replied to the topic Why not normal distribution? in the forum General 19 years, 4 months ago
Process capability is calculated from subgroups all the time. In addition, there is not enough information to conclude that insufficient data exist. I would argue that 36 consecutive samples are certainly sufficient to calculate the standard deviation. Once you know that you can make any number of informed decisions about the process.

Unfortunately, the emerging market is only available with a rather significant caveat. The only thing available without strings is the slave labor.

Were the 36 samples consecutive? Was the process adjusted during the sampling process? Non-consecutive samples taken off-line that may be subject to adjustment would be of limited value in calculating capability.

Heebee,
Very well said. You will take fire, of course, for your insight, but your POV is supported by the facts. -

Fernie,
Boy you told me, huh? In case youre interested, here are facts demonstrating that you are wrong:
1) Fernies Folly: A true democracy in which ONLY the top dollar fund raisers get their party’s nomination and support for office??.
Actual fact: Sununus campaign in the spring spent $198,113, less than one-quarter of Smiths exp…[Read more] -

Fernie,
Each of your comments prior to “there’s no perfection in this world” are demonstrably false. Never one to dismiss the possibility that I am mistaken, I will be happy to open my eyes provided you offer something within stiking distance of the truth as a starting point. -

FairBB,
Yes – really. Upon reaching the age of 18, Americans gain the right to vote.Whether or not the exercise that right and whom they vote for are completely their own choice.
Since we’re talking about 6S, what statistical tool would you use to determine the validity of the recent unanimous election with 100% voter participation in Iraq? -

Hi Jackie,
Although I hope I have already made it clear, my concerns are not with the people of China – they are with the system of government. In that regard, I’d like to differ with one of your comments. *Politicians* are not the same all over the world – *people* are. In my country politicians have to earn their office through free and fair…[Read more] -

Cost is what attracts business to China – period. The fact of the matter is that China’s vast consumer market is not open to foreign companies – unless those companies produce the product they wish to sell in China.
I wonder what makes Communist China any less dangerous to the Western world than the former USSR? I wonder if Cold War “victory”…[Read more] -

Withheld replied to the topic Tolerances of casting in the forum General 19 years, 4 months ago
Given the feature size, a standard deviation of .0049″ from a machining operation is extremely high. If such variation is acceptable to you, you might consider changing the feature to “as cast” and eliminating the machining operation since it seems that the groove can serve no purpose other than clearance with such high variation.

Never Mind,
I would submit that all of the things you suggest to fix the “problem” are being done by the USA already. If you disagree, please cite an example. - Load More
