    hope that this further explanation will help to have better clarity.
    Quick win opportunity is easy to implement,cheap to implement, fast to implement and it is within the teams control.
    It is a low hanging fruit,there is no need of much efforts to analyse and implement.
    For example after a process mapping we may have an opportunity to identify and eliminate the non value added activities just by reviewing the process map.
    “Activities to be done quickly” as per the process owner / customer is not a QuickWin.All quick wins will definitely give the dollars.otherwise there is no win and no question of quick win.
    The important caution is that six sigma project not ends with quick wins.Team should not focus only on quick wins.They have to put their efforts on identifying and reducing the variations.

    ISO certification process was diluted by more no of certification agencies as a part of their marketing strategy.ISO certificate has become an advertisement attraction Hence it is becoming a liability instead ofimproving the bottom.
    In 6S there is No external agency .No audit.No cheating.It will improve our bottom line.
    ISO basic intent is good but it was spoiled by the auditors and certificate agencies.Hence it is no way nearer to 6S now.

    My questions are what is round rabin ? and what is GLM?.
    For Operators comparison simple one way anova is adequate if you compare within a plant and other factors are constant.
    In one of my project Anova was used to compare the operators.Interesting thing is Anova done after two months has given totally different results when compared to previous one.During the investigation it was found that there was a drastic change in their family situation and attitude which has resulted in the output.
    Please be carefull on this type of noise factors while doing Anova.

    If you are considering the total no of rooms to be cleaned (both occupied and vacant) as your subgroup,you can use NP chart instead P chart since your Sample size is constant.Hope that no of rooms to be cleaned is not varying on daily basis.No of rooms not cleaned can eb considered as Defective.
    Through control chart you can ensure the stability of your process and you can identify the special causes.In my view it is adequate for this process.
    Talking about Process capability is more useful when you have variable data and your process is just meeting the specifications.If you have more non conformities,doing process capability study won’t give you the fruitful results.Monitoring the control charts will help you

    My basic doubt is 99.99966% was arrived in what basis.Whether it is considering 12 -3 (1.5 +1.5) sigma or considering 12 -1.5 sigma.
    Subsequent post from BTDT confirms that it is consiodering 4. 5 sigma on both side.

    My understanding is at +/- 6 sigma ,
    Area under the curve is 99.9999998 % without considering the shift.
    Area under the curve is 99.99966 considering 1.5 sigma shift from the target.
    request some experts to clarify my doubt :whether this 1.5 sigma shift is +/- 1.5 sigma shift or totally 1.5 sigma shift?

    As per my knowledge Binary logistic is to identify the relation between variable input Vs attribute output.i am not sure how you are using this to identify the outliers.

    Sigma levl of any process can be calculated using a formula
    Sigma Level = 0.8406 + SQRT (29.37-2.221 X lnPPM)

    It is obvious that Degrees of freedom is significant only when we have small sample size.If we increase the no of samples,there will be less impact on our standard deviation calculation due to degrees of freedom.
    Is there any guidelines / thumb rule when we have to consider the dF.some thing like sample vs population ratio etc

    As per my understanding ,
    Regression Analysis is a basic step to identify the correlation within a given range of data.Validity of regression equation is limited to a range of data / samples.Agree with Andy’s view,i also felt that there is no mistake in naming as correlation.
    After idnetifying the correlated factors we have to do the DOE to optimise those factors (Xs) .I am unable to understand how DOE will replace at the initial stage itself ie when we don’t know which X is having correlation with Y.
    Normalization of X before regression modelling was suggested by Robert.In some cases it may not help.
    When i did a regression analysis for Consumables cost Vs Productios Volume,i don’t find any correlation and my adjusted r square also low.During further diagnosis,it was found that some fixed assets where accounted as consumables (data entry mistake).After eliminating those special causes i got the correlation.Like our control charts analysis,we have identify the special / assignable causes.In this type of situation.normalization of will mislead.

    % contribution
    % study variation
    % Tolerance Variation
    % Porcess variation.
    I have some idea about tolerance and process variation.

    Hope that your yield data is variable in nature.In such a case you have three options :
    1.I MR chart if your sample / population size is one
    2.X bar R chart if your sample or population size is less than 10.
    3.If it is more than 10 X bas S chart.
    Please logically decide  whether taking a sample from your population is correct or not since it is depends on process out put what you are considering.

    As a depolyment champion,right now i am conducting the green belt training.My thoughts as follows:
    1.Charging for a training within a company may nor work.Instead we can motivate the people in a positiv way such as recognition in the top managment forum etc.
    2.Execution of project after the training is not a right approach.Participants should have project at the start of training program.Atleast 60 % of the project has to be completed at the end of the training.We have schedule the training sessions suitably.
    3.Written Test and assessment for every will encourage the participants.
    4.Certificate at the end of the training program is good motivator.
    5.Announce the reward system for project completion

    We can say sigma level is unit to measure the defects / non conformities.In such a situation whatever you are following ie calculating DPMO is a statistical way only.

    It may not be possible for all training and conferences.
    1.We can calcuate ROI for total six sigma deployment against the projectbenefits annually.
    2.If you are spending some many for a MBB training,amount saved in the BB training will give an indication about MBB training ROI.
    3.For BB training we can consider savings / year (considering all projects doen by the individual BB) as a ROI.
     4.For specific tools / techinique (Ex DOE) training.ROI can be calculated measuring the savings / benefits achieved when that specific tool was used in your business.

    1.Depends on age and nature of company.If it is old and specific engg company,it is better to have existing trained instaed of a new guy since they have to learn process as well as people.
    2.One big negative while using existing people is they may not think radically beyond certain point during analyse phase and even they may not define the problem properly due to their previuos experience and perceptions.To avoid this situation job rotation within the company is advisable.After BB training that person should not do project within his section / department.He has to handle other dept project.
    3.Cost effective option is training the existing people since BB is a costly commodity in the outside.
    4.Your people will get motivated for this type new training.For a new outsider it may be difficult to execute the work through people.
    My choice is train the existing people.

    Xm R chart is moving average range chart and it can be used for anything not only for first pass yield.
    Both methods are correct.Usage is depends on your requirement as detailed below:
    1.If you want to assess the process variation impact on a particular product or if you want to compare the different prodcuts,the method followed by your comapany (% for individual product) is ok.
    2.If you want to assess the overall capability of your design and process function and to study the trend over the period,the method you studied is applicable.

    Another name for this GRR is MSA—-Measurement System Analysis.Most of the time this GRR may not be required for cost reduction projects.In your project if you are measuring any parmeters using a instruments it is applicable.Otherwise it may be required.In a cost reduction projects.Arrive a baseline,data source with a commen understanding across the organisation as a part of establishing the measurement system.For example sales value and production output value may not match.
    MSA / GRR is not mandatory for all projects

    In a mechanical enginerring industry practically we are assuming the oppotunities as one ie PPM is equivalent to DPMO since people will have confusion for deciding the no of oppotunities.I felt that this is as a practically feasible approach.
    In some cases considering the more no of opportunities will dilute the quality level ie artifically it will show high sigma level.
    Please go though this example :
    Situation 1 : Considering PPM
    No of cars produced —1000
    No of defectives ——–100
    PPM ——————–100000
    Sigma considering PPM—-2.7
    Situation 2 :Considering DPMO
    No of components in a car—–500
    No of opportunities for defect—-500 (min one defect per component)
    Total no of defective —-100 (Assuming only one defect in each car)
    DPU——100 / 1000——0.1
    DPMO —0.1 /500 *1000000—–200—–5 Sigma level
    The process is worst while considering PPM = DPMO but the same process is better while considering DPMO as a different one.
    DPMO with multiple oppotunities will mislead by showing the high sigma level.
    Extra care is required while talking about DPMO.

    Only COPQ is being named as COQ by most of the people.
    Even in Juran’s QC handbook,it was declared that COQ refers to COPQ consisting of failure cost,appraisal cost and prevention cost.
    Assets like QC/QA dept buildings need not be considered.
    In my view COQ measurement interms of sales revenue is more useful instead % of manhrs.It is required to show the commercial importance and trigger the corrective action with the management support.
    Interpretation of COQ is more important.An increase in  prevention cost along with the reduction in failure is more useful to the company in a long term.Continuos monitoring of the trend will help to decide the business strategy.

    Are going to loose the current business? or new business?

    Whether your customer will reduce his payment?

    Please consider the normal distribution.
    If your actual mean (calculated from the observed values) maches with the thereorical mean (specification),for +/-6Sigma band width you will get only 0.002PPM out of spec.
    But in a practical situation,there would be a shift in the mean value.
    when the six sigma methodology was invented,it was assumed that this mean will shift by +/-1.5 sigma ie it will utilise the 50% area of the normal curve.In such a situation,only 3.4 ppm will be out of spec.
    This is based on the practical limitations of any process.

    In six sigma each and every oppotunity has to be identified as a project.It is basically a project management approach to achieve the well defined goal with a specified time frame.Examples are :New product cycle time reduction,Scrap reduction,Yield improvement etc.
    TQM events such as 5S,SOP etc can be used as a tool to achieve the goal of any six sigma project.
    Focussed approach on each oppotunity with the help of statistical tools.
    Project benefits has to be shared with team members on completion of projects.
    Independent full time team leader called “Black Belt” is unique feature of SS.

    Steps involved in PFMEA as follows :
    1.Draw the process flow /sequence
    2.Identify the critical features / dimensions determined by each stage of operations.
    3.Identify the failure modes for each stage and its impact on next operation,customer CTQs.
    4.Allocate the severity rating for each failure mode in 1-10 scale.10 is more severe.
    5.Estimate the past occurance of these failure modes and allocate occurance number on a 1-10 scale.
    6.Estimate the effectiveness of the existing controls to avoid this failure mode.To be scaled in 1-10 scale.
    7.Multiply all these three numbers against each failure mode and that resultant is called RPN–risk priority number.
    8.Address necessary corrective action wherever these numbers are more.

    Both TQM and Six sigma concepts are not only for the quality of the product and these are beyond the product quality.
    Six sigma is a methodology consisting of various QC tools,problem solving techniques applicable for quality of product,service and life.
    In six sigma every thing has to be considered as process (now i am responding to your query—-it is a process) and the performance of these process can be improved using six sigma methodology.
    In six sigma all problems has to be identified as a project.It is basically a project management approach.
    In TQM, various elements are involved such as 5S,Kaizen,TPM etc.
    It is possible to deploy both simultaneously depends upon your nature of business,level of organisation maturity etc

    Special characteristics has to be selected based on functional importance of the characteristics and not based on Cp or Cpk.For example characteristics which significantly affects safety,form fit and function.

    For example  out of 100 nos produced ,if 4 nos of TVs are not showing the picture.It will become 40000 ppm.If i consider 10 opportunities,then it will become 4000DPMO.Sigma level for this is  4.15 sigma.It is difficult to accept this 4% rejection as 4.15 sigma level.

    SixSigma implementation is possible in old as well as new company /organisation.It is a robust problem solving methodology used to reduce the variation as well as the waste.Increase in profitability was achieved by some organisations after SS implementation.

    Even with this TV example i am not clear where we have to stop the counting of number of oppotunities.Even a non techinical customer can count no of  opportunities for a defective TV failure such as Picture tube failure,Speaker failure,Remote failure etc.Still i felt that considering the no of oppotunities will show the increased sigma level.

    In standard books formaula recommended is as follows  (to calculate DPMO—sigma level) :
    (No of Defects / nos produced)/No of Opportunities * 10000
    But some statisticians are strongly criticising this formaula since if you consider more no of oppotunities it will dilute your basic defect rate calculation.

    As per my understanding,BBs are supposed to be a full time project leaders should act independently with the support of Deployment Champion who is reporting to CEO of the company.
    Business leaders or process owners has to help the BB to complete the project.
    Managerial level should not be an issue.
