    Hello,

We are preparing for MSAs and the topic of choosing the correct parts for the MSA came up multiple times. The general rule I have heard is to choose parts representative of your process. The parts we are receiving in from our supplier vary from 15-30 millionths on roundness while our spec is 100 millionths. How will this affect the…[Read more]

    Hello,

Our current leak detection process is not reliable. I am validating our leak detection process (mass decay) and I am wondering if I should include units with known failure modes in the MSA. For example, should I include units with pinched, missing, and cut o-rings in the study? Or should I only do the MSA on good units? This wouldn’t…[Read more]

    @Straydog,

Thanks for the reply. Is the QFD still an effective tool when developing a product for a single customer? If you have a fuzzy customer requirement, wouldn’t the first step be to reach out the customer to accurately define, i.e. durability = >1 million cycles? IF they come back with a nebulous answer I would then use the QFD for it.…[Read more]

    Hello,

I am working on a QFD for a new product launch and I have a few questions regarding customer requirements for the first house. Our customer has provided us a requirements document that clearly defines specific requirements, i.e. 2.5 GPM at 5000 PSI. Is this something that needs to be captured in house 1, only in a later house, or not at…[Read more]

    Hello,

I am creating the production control plan for a new product we are launching. I am unsure about how to set sampling frequency and size. I’ve been reading about the AQL tables and how they relate to size but I can’t seem to find any math to back up frequency strategies. There seems to be a lot of ambiguity around it, which seems…[Read more]

    Hello,

I am doing an MSA on our measurement process for flatness. We are using an inverted gauge installed under a granite block. The issue I have is that when measuring flatness, no two operators are going to be hitting the exact same points. I can create a fixture to ensure they are hitting the same points during the study, but in production,…[Read more]

Thank you for your response. You are correct, if we were using RTY we could clearly see the seriousness of the issue.

I have implemented a data collection sheet with the assemblers to record the occurrence. While this is being collected I am running MSAs on the measurement systems used upstream that affect this issue.

    The previous manager of…[Read more]

    Hello,

I have been placed on a new project to fix an issue that has been going on for the past 10 years. The products that are experiencing the issue are only run about 5% of the time, about once a month. Historically, when they found the issue on the line they would fix it on the line. Unfortunately, this fix can lead to a decrease in the…[Read more]

    Hi Everyone,

I have been working on developing a poka yoke to ensure our boxes are shipped with the correct quantity.

Our general process is: Assemble part –> Stamp Part –> Place part in bag –> Scan bag label into system –> Place part into box

Our break down is occurring when one piece flow is not followed. Multiple pieces may be…[Read more]
