Here is a link to a presentation on data mining used in the improve phase to support a DOE – http://www.northhavengroup.com/pdfs/DataMiningAndDOE.pdf.I'm a Minitab guy, but this presentation uses JMP’s recursive partitioning feature.I’ve seen a lot of LSS presentation in my day and this is the only one I’ve seen that discusses data mining and six…[Read more]

Tina,I would stay away from any program where you can get both Six Sigma “certified” and Yoga “certified”.This “online” certification looks to be a 350 page book plus a test…. Buyer beware.Chris

The customer is requiring a GR&R study be conducted on the parts, which they pulled and sent to us for the study. The problem is the parts have very little variation. I would propose using % of tolerance consumed, but some of the characteristics only have a minimum spec limit so there is no defined “tolerance band” to use.
I am aware of not o…[Read more] -

Dan,
Many ring gages are made from type O6 tool steel. I used to work for a gage manufacturer back in the early 80s and the Chief Engineer I worked with had been in the gage making industry since the 40s. He always told me that in his experience O6 would grow in size over time even if not subjected to elevated temperatures. The increase was not…[Read more] -

Gary,
I’ll tell you what I’ve done to an existing study prior to my original post. Please confirm if this is what you’re referring to by “substituting known variation into the calculations”.
The parts on original GR&R I conducted only exhibited the .002″ variation and the calculated total GR&R % was well above 30%. In an effort to see the…[Read more] -

Chad,
I think we’re on the same page. My initial thought was to try and somehow introduce more variation into the parts by various methods, but some customers want the GR&R conducted on the actual parts from the capability study.
Basically, I’m looking to confirm through others such as yourself with more experience, that using parts with very…[Read more] -

I recently 100% inspected some parts for attribute failures. The supplier had shipped approximately 1 or 2 defective parts per 100 parts for three previous shipments. The defect was a threaded hole was not in the key way as shown on the print. When I inspected these parts it appeared that all the the threaded holes were centered in the key way.…[Read more]

Abby,As soon as I put, “Pursuing Six Sigma Black Belt certification” in my resume, the phone started ringing. As I completed the coursework and qualified for Yellow, Green and DFSS/Lean manufacturing certifications, I added that too. During the phone and in-person interviews with recruiters and employers, they never asked where I was getting the…[Read more]

Maverick, how could you have possibly attended any form of GB training and not come away knowing the first steps are to find a problem, write a Problem Statement, write an Objective Statement, create a Business Case, obtain appropriate approval…then proceed? How in the world would you not know at least that much?
Could you reasonably get hung…[Read more] -

Holy cow!
First, I replied to a different post regarding Aveta’s program and referenced a completely different post that I made 3+ months ago; let us get that straightened out first. In addition, I log all the resumes I submit in a simple Excel file. It is easy to see a 2x change in # of responses before starting the SS program and a…[Read more] -

Oh please, hb. You can’t see this is a setup question to create discussion? This isn’t a real situation. I don’t care how shallow training may be one would have to come away knowing how to start a project. Define the problem , create an objectve, etc. This is fake.

Why after winning the award you did in Florida do you no longer post under your real name? Something fishy here.

I got my BB certification from Aveta. My reasoning was to get the certification at a reasonable cost and become more marketable (I am out of a job right now). I am getting 2x more hits off my resume with the six sigma verbiage on there. As you complete coursework towards the BB cert., you can apply for the yellow, green and DFSS…[Read more]

I have experience with two LSS project tracking applications – Quality Companion (w/ the dashboard) and TRACtion – both are very good. I am also familiar with the standards – iNexus, PowerSteering, and Instantis.
I find it interesting that you are looking at both Quality Companion 3 and PowerSteering as the prices and value pr…[Read more] -

It seems like my options for taking lean/BB coursework has come down to online at ASQ, Villanova or 1stcourses.com. Can’t afford any of the other programs.
How would you rank the three? BTW, what is wrong with the 1stcourses.com program? I don’t want to be an expert, just have some knowledge and have the cert. - Load More
