There is technology out there to help you with your efforts. Check out http://www.lattice.com. This technology works with your IS to print specimen labels at the bedside to prevent any possibility of labeling errors. The system can also be used for med adminstration and transfusion services.

Use the P value as the percentage. If the P=0, subtract that from 100% and you are 100% confident that there is a statistical significance in the data you tested. Rejecting the NULL (that there is no difference) and ACCEPTING the alternative (that there is a difference) P=0.05, then you are 95% confident that the data is statistical. if the P=.5,…[Read more]

N = 1.96 x Standard Dev. Devided by Error (Error you are willing to accept) all squared.
This is if you are sampling a lot….. There are many factors to look at for sampling and sampling sizes…. I don’t believe there is a “one size fits all.”

Clowers replied to the topic Supplier Defects Per Million metric in the forum General 17 years, 6 months ago
Hi,
For supplier performance measurement, there are few ways to monitor them such as monthly review, scorecard and etc.
And for the DPPM calculation for incoming and line fall out, I suggest we separate them and plot to different control chart monitoring.
Thanks.

You’ve helped a lot. Thank you. As I said, I havee the number of departments and the cost per headcount in each one. I also know how much of each item is ordered both in total and by department.
If the team decides to go after the higher cost items, how would I calculate the DPMO?
If the team decides to focus on the departments with the hig…[Read more]

Thank you for the info. You’ve given me some great ideas. Could you define exactly what the defect was and the opportunity. Was it any item over the safety stock level? Sounds like if that’s the case you had a starting DPMO of 1,000,000.
