Ward replied to the topic ASQ Membership Is Valued at $10,000? in the forum General 14 years, 9 months ago
I really don’t find those numbers that difficult to believe. When I transitioned out the military in 1997, it was my ASQ CQE designation that enabled me to have a very smooth transition out of the military into the GE’s Six Sigma world.

Do you know if there is any effort to managing to the target rather than to the spec? As Deming said, “Specifications are the starting point, not the ending point”.

First of all, congratulations on all your accreditations! ASQ has a specific Navy Six Sigma Belt certification. Will you have the opportunity to sit for that certification? I agree with QualityColorado (not just because I am also from CO), the real sell is during the interview. Some HR recruiters will not even get you in the door with out a 4…[Read more]

William, If you access the search function (upper right) on this site, and enter “call center” you will find many fine articles on call centers and Six Sigma.
Long ago, when I was implementing Process Management and Control Systems in a financial services customer support center, I found the incoming.com site very helpful. Back then most of…[Read more] -

I agree. It really is pretty simple. I get concerned when we feel it is necessary to “dumb-it down”. The team members might hurt for a little as learning is occurring but that’s not a bad thing.

I concur with Alastair. I would rather the team try and understand the logic of the higher number for the lower detectability.

Also be advised that older versions of Minitab (not MTB 15) and some other SPC packages will adjust standard deviation overall by the the bias correction factor “c4” which lead to a slightly different statement of overall standard deviation in Minitab’s Graphical Summary and the standard deviation calculation in the Capability Analysis. Some…[Read more]

My bad. I was multi-tasking during the response and addressed the wrong scale. For your team you could just ask the to determine the detectability from the following scale:
10. Defect Undetectable
9. Units sporadically checked for defects
8. Units systematically sampled and inspected
7. All units manually inspected
6. Mistake-proofing…[Read more] -

If the team is struggling with the concept of the worse the detectability the lower the score, then don’t depend them to assign the values. Let them assign the detectability using the subjective approach (more than once per day to once every 5-100 years)or the the probability (>20% to 20% to 20% to

Binary logistic regression can help answer the question. Minitab makes it pretty easy for this type of anlaysis/model. This thread has been moved to the Financial Services discussion forum. Please click here to continue the discussion.

Ward replied to the topic hypothesis test in the forum General 14 years, 9 months ago
If it was unclear about what type of hypothesis test is appropriate for 2 continuous variables, then I doubt that determining the Standardized Euclidean Distance will be an easy sell. I am also a Wheeler fan.

Ward replied to the topic hypothesis test in the forum General 14 years, 9 months ago
The simple answer is you should do regression analysis, but without understanding the assumptions around regression, the analysis may be worthless.
The null hypothesis, that you asked about, is that the slope = 0 or there is no linear relationship between cycle time and loan amount. -
Ward replied to the topic hypothesis test in the forum General 14 years, 9 months ago
Why are you concerned about a hypothesis test? It sounds like you have not yet presented the data graphically. Once you construct a basic graph to represent the relationship between cycle time and amount, the appropriate statistical analysis should be clear.
