    Hi,
Some measure we have used are:
    IT spend per user
% spend for KLO (Keep the lights on) vs. Discretionary projects
Cumulative NPV for projects initiated during the quarter, etc.
    thanks,
    Rajesh

    Hi,
I guess it will be common sense if I say – a BB should be a good start. He will pay off his salary if he does real improvements
Trouble is you need someone seriously good not just a show package.
An idea: Ask the person if he is willing to work for a % of savings. If the savings are substantial he’ll benefit + it will ensure he works for real benefits. It may be difficult but it will be a win-win situation
    regards Rajesh

Hi, Like I said earlier, if counts are large, then % can be considered as continuous….and you can use minitab or DPMO (be consistent in before and after)
My personal opinion, Six Sigma is be about improvements and not statistics.

    Hi,
Think about the difference between the promised date and date delivered as the measure. This will make your measure continuous (days). However it will not eliminate the problem of data paucity.

    Sam,
I used the example in your post of 30/70=42.85%. If 30 changes to 29 the value of your metric changes to 41.428% ( a diff of 1.4%). Now analyse what will happen if you set a target value to this measure with a tolerance of 1% !! Your measuring system will have variation more than the tolerance.
Why counts are not always the best…here is more…
Say at the org level you have good counts which will kind of stabilize the metric…however when you do segmentation, the problem may crop up once again.
Suggestion could be use billable days or hours…a simple multiplication will bring some respite.
    Regards,

    Hi,
Technically this is descrete as its source is count.
If your counts are high then you can treat it as continuous.
See your metric jump with low count eg  if Actually Billable ELT’s  is 70 then each unit change in the numerator will be 1.4 %!! Now it depends if you can live with is variation.

    Steve,
Do you recommend lean in place of six sigma methodology.?..I know about the gains of implementing lean , especially looking at the benefits taken by Japanese organisations …but I still dont understand the prescriptive approach of lean…which tools we have to use first ..what is the sequence of this methodology as compared to a very prescriptive DMAIC approach..is it possible for you to help me understand the lean approach by giving some references , case studies ..or projects wherein I can understand the rigour of implementing lean..
    thanks

    Hi,
    Thanks. Actually the University website
http://www.csuhayward.edu/indicates the following for Green Belt”Green Belt certification can be provided upon successful completion of the course. The course itself does not provide a project.Completion of the Black Belt course does not include certification, but should prepare you for certification through industry bodies, such as ASQ and IQF.”

please provide clear picture to understand your difficulty as traceability is possible in most of the cases .Only after understanding the product nature and process types, we may be able to comment.

My reply to this question was:
Quality is all about Meeting Customers Needs and then exceeding customers Needs. and then Meeting customers expectations and exceeding customers expectations leading to a profit to both the customer and the organization….

    Ken,
I am a six sigma black belt with around 10 years with manufacturing, recently joined as six sigma leader with a healthcare sector.
After working for GE/Allied signal I have been driving six sigma since last 6 years and am quite comfortable with use of six sigma processes in Manufacturing
Healthcare industry is quite new to me,and this industry is growing fast in India ,but at the same time the focus on quality needs a lot of improvement .In case you belong to the same industry can I
understand the key international parameters captured as VOC .

    Hi Indranil
You mustbe having processes in HR . You first need to determine who are the customers of theses processes & based on their VoC you can determine which metrics you need to improve in your recruitment processes ???…..That is where six sigma projects start …Right

But most people opinion on applying six sigma in market improvement is -ve, they think that its just marketing strategy, six sigma will not help.
If you have some case study on this topic. Please forward.

Can one presume that the prediction error refers to the consumer’s risk (Beta) in choosing the sample size and that the producer’s risk (alpha) is given by 1- Confidence Level ?

    Hello John,
I am glad that you responded for the message. Iam very new to this concept of Six Sigma and the main source for information in the college for the topic is a trained champion itself (but i wanted to increase my options). The college doesn’t have a past record of dissertation in this topic and they are flexible enough to accept any topic under this. So can i get some feedback from you regarding this issue.

Show a little initiative! No one has the time to send you everything you want in an easy to digest form — you’ll have to take a class to get that.
Here are some resources from this site (try the search, it’s v. good):https://www.isixsigma.com/dictionary/Gage_R&R-147.htm

I think, it has become a “FAD” to call every quality initiative as fad. Fundametally, evry quality is robust enough for improvement of processes. But, it is we implementors who turn those into “FADs”
