Hi Olga,
I posted a question a few weeks ago looking for a correlation between how mature a company is… and the waste that’s associated with that level of maturity.
Maturity can be defined in many ways, one of the more popular ways is the CMM Index that essentially says: Level 1 is chaos, Level 2 some pockets of goodness, Level 3 each area…[Read more]

Straydog,
Thank you very much for your suggestion and I just had a CMMI report sent to me that attempts to do a rough correlation. I’d be happy to send it to you, if you’re interested.

I would also appreciate info on the Airplane Game. I teach high school students in a SPC course, and it may add interest.
Thanks,

Hi,
I had my company pay for my Lean Six Sigma Certification from Villanova. My first project I was able to extract nearly $350,000 in hard savings from a $3 million dollar process. I do not think my mangement chain believes it was a wasted $10,000. Could someone with more experience have performed better? Yes. Is Villanova’s an academ…[Read more] -

“You can work it as a lean or Six Sigma project it doesn’t matter”
That is an incredibly presumptuous statement. The foundation of 6s is the use of stats and some fairly intimidating tools to the uninitiated. How he approaches it is of utmost significance. It DOES matter. Flippantly saying it doesn’t matter makes it sound like 6s is easy to do.…[Read more] -

If Six Sigma doesn’t use tolerance design DOE, how does it determine realistic tolerances?

DEAR ANDY: THANKYOU FOR THE ANSWER. I THINK YOUR SAYING I SHOULD USE ONLY MY DIAMETERS AND THE NORMAL FORMULA OF CALCULATING STANDARD DEVIATION? I SHOULD NOT THEN CONSIDER THE FORM OF THE PART FOR SIGMA.

Groll replied to the topic Getting Certified in the forum General 16 years, 7 months ago
Based on some of the responses I have received let me follow up with an explanation. I am currently working on a project on my job that is closely tied into six sigma. So I am getting experience in the concepts. It is because of this I decided to look into certification. I do not think my department will pay for it so I am preparing to do…[Read more]

Hi YG,
There have been a good deal of conversations on this topic in the past. I searched the Discussion Forum archive for “hr” and found a ton. You might want to try the same.

I would suggest that the best response to your question is unknowable, in that no one responding understands the corporate culture and organizational maturity of your company. The best infrastructure for your company depends heavily on those factors.
If your organization is postured for success and is anxious to reap the benefits of a six sigma…[Read more] -

ASQ’s Measurement division has spent fruitless hours on the concept of data and entry of the data. I have found that it is best to automate as much data entry as possible and into a very reliable place.
Best of luck!!!
