  • Hello Eugene, thanks for your response. As it turned out, my organization had access to a database that tracks this, and other, metrics. I was intentionally ‘mislead” by a person responsible for collecting many of our organizations clinical metrics. She apparently thought that sharing this information would show our organization in a “bad light”.…[Read more]

  • ong replied to the topic Control Charts in Excel in the forum General 11 years, 5 months ago

I usually set up the charts ahead of time (since I don’t necessarily want to recalculate each time) and have the operators enter their data directly on the chart, which is posted at the machine.
You have to teach them about charts, of course, but it gives real-time data and indication of control issues with real ‘hands on’ by the op…[Read more]

Thanks for the advice which makes a lot of sense.  Also are there any training programs to recommend that heighten the experience component of learning?  Thanks again for the information.

I must agree that Demming’s philosophies have underpinned my Total Quality Ethos for 15 years. I have come to realise that without enlightened leaders all the fancy tools, (Six Sigma , Lean, Process improvement etc) are just that. There is one key point within my mind that realises real sustainable success and that is “Development”. “Continuous P…[Read more]

  • If you are working with minitab, all you need to do is enter to the six sigma menu in the tool bar and select product report, then enter your dpmo like 800, then the total produced in this case is going to be 1000000 and your failures oportunities, could be 1, 2 it depends on your product.
    I hope help.

  • Hi, you must set your first target or goal in 50% of your current DPMO what means 800, this is becasue you are above 3 sigma level. (If your sigma level were below 3 sigma you need to perform a 90%) After do it, set the strecht goal by reducing another 50% of the new DPMO, this 400.
Always that a sigma level is below 3 sigma you need to reduce th…[Read more]

You are correct. First PAss Yield does not include rework. Yield Rate does.

The issue here is do you really have the true population. Define what the true population is and what you are trying to deduce. Very rarely I have known the true population to ever have been assessed.
This is a very philosophical area. For example:
A company sells to 100M cusotmers its product. Is this the true population? Well that depends.…[Read more]

  • Hi,
There are several control charts you can use to monitor customer satisfaction.
    Customer Satisafaction overall:
When demonstrating the average score of a question then use mu chart. Calculate mu for the center line then using mu you can calculate the UCL & LCL = +/-3 * sqrt(mu/n)
n = response rate for the time point. This graph will result…[Read more]

    Hi Jimmie,
    Agreed.
Best place to start is Force Field Analysis (management group):

    Where is the group now?
Where do you want the group to be.
    What are the drivers forces
    What are the restraining forces
    Highlight preceptions & facts
    Prioritize restraining forces
compile action for reduce restraining forces.
To aid in where to get…[Read more]

This is an interesting topic and one which I have conducted myself. Here are a few pointers of what help me to ensure I got the message across in a constructive manner.
Important – Points to be aware of:
    1. Managers all tend to believe they are kow whats best for the employees and that there are no morale issues.
    2. If there are morale issues…[Read more]
