I agree with the discharge lounge. But I think for our setting that might not solve the problem.
On the same issue……. Is there a way to get around waiting for depart order to be put in? Is there a way to put a “dummy depart order” one day earlier. If the pt. is stable the next day, the nurses dont have to wait for the depart order to…[Read more] -
sixsigmadeewana replied to the topic Physician-Nurse rounding in the forum Healthcare 15 years, 7 months ago
Thats interesting coz I did an analysis to support my argument. I calculated the average discharge time grouped by floors. It was anywhere between 3 to 9 hrs.
Its interesting to see that you are pursuing similar things with similar issues and even solutions. Can you elaborate a bit more on how the responsibilities of your RN’s will change? -
sixsigmadeewana replied to the topic Physician-Nurse rounding in the forum Healthcare 15 years, 7 months ago
Brit
What are some of barriers that your team is facing?
Some of barriers for us are having physicians round at specific times, not having enough nursing staff, and increasing work load on nurses if they round with the physicians.Being a community hosp. it makes it harder to persuade physicians to do anything. -
sixsigmadeewana replied to the topic geometric mean LOS in the forum Healthcare 15 years, 8 months ago
Brit
That makes sense… Geometric mean is calculated since there is so much variability in the LOS data and also because it follows a non-normal distribution. When you think of it this way, it does not make sense to calculate the arithmetic mean LOS since it is so biased. I think they calculate AM LOS so that it is easier for the common person…[Read more] -

That was partially helpful. It does answer how to calculate it, not why do we need GM LOS?

sixsigmadeewana replied to the topic Patient Transportation in the forum Healthcare 15 years, 9 months ago
I am working on a related issue with patient transportation for pts. with telemetry…
Do you really need a CN to accompany a pt. while transporting?
We thought about having a Telemetry transportation team where a group of individuals would transport patients. This would save some time for the nurses.
Has anyone worked on these issues? -
sixsigmadeewana replied to the topic finger scan for login in the forum Healthcare 15 years, 9 months ago
Thanks.
Did it save time for your docs?
One of our discharge time reduction initiative is to enable the docs to login quickly so that they can document the pt. faster. Although I dont have data for this at this point, I know finger scanning should be faster than loggin on and stuff. Do you have any data? Can you share?
Feel free to call me at…[Read more] -

you took all the measurements yourself ?????? That woudnt be a R&R then…It would be more like capability study…

sixsigmadeewana replied to the topic Help with Capability Issue in the forum General 16 years ago
I agree Adrian…this data somehow seems to be “made up” …. or the measurement system needs refinement. But to answer your original question, the Cp that you calculated was correct but the distribution is not normal, so you cannot really use Normal dist.

sixsigmadeewana replied to the topic Help with Capability Issue in the forum General 16 years ago
This is not a normal distribution. p value is 0.023.
As Sandor pointed out, there is a mixture of 2 or more populations here. I also think, you need to take a look at the measurement system. Is it adequate? Is it working correctly? Or even, Are the operators making up these numbers?
The limits that you specified in the first post, are they the…[Read more] -

sixsigmadeewana replied to the topic Machine Downtime Data Collection in the forum General 16 years ago
Dont add codes without understanding the process. See if the operators are filling in the codes correctly. One of the issues I have seen is… operators always used the first code from a list of codes since it was “easier” to use it. Is there such a “bias” in your system? You need to check all this before changing the system.
Then, I suggest…[Read more] -

what formula are you using for Cp?
-
sixsigmadeewana replied to the topic Machine Downtime Data Collection in the forum General 16 years ago
How many codes fo you have? Also as per the previous poster’s idea, can you try and combine the codes. From personal experience, do NOT use the code OTHERS or MISCELLANEOUS.
Try conducting time studies. -
sixsigmadeewana replied to the topic flatness inspection in the forum General 16 years ago
Since the check is a Pass or Fail you would need to use attribute charts. Is the flatness spec. so strict or can you allow some variation /tolerance in flatness?
Due to low production, and complexity of measurement the sample size will always be low.
What are you trying to acheive or what do you think you will get by plotting control charts?…[Read more] -
sixsigmadeewana replied to the topic Aumomatic Machine GRR questions in the forum General 16 years ago
I would recommend that you should take the worse possible scenario and do a gauge r&r on it.
Choose 3 different angles that you would commonly use to check the parts. Use 10 parts and check each part 3 times in one location. The 3 different angles will act as 3 operators.
The variation between the readings of different angles for same part is…[Read more] -
