We are newly created internal quality group within the service industry supporting LSS iniatives.  With that said, we are attempting to obtain feedback on our consultants from internal customers on behaviors and results based on projects they supported in 2005.  Wanted to solicit suggestions for potential questions that we should target to ensure that we obtain a global perspective of the consultants ability in terms or results and behaviors.  Any insight or site references would be appreciated.

I, personally, am not a huge fan of the once a year specials.  They rarely, if ever, deliver the type of information we believe they will.  They are a poor substitute for the day to day, real-time coaching and mentoring one requires to make improvement in their job skills.  It is just another way for management to abdicate their role.  If you don’t know how your people are doing in the tasks for the entire year, an end of year appraisal won’t get you there.  A good read on this is – dare I say it – Dr. Deming (Out of the Crisis) – and Dr. Bill Lareau (American Samurai).  They will pretty much debunk any thoughts one may have that performance appraisals are useful.

    Hi Jim
You may adopt the following process :
    Method A :
a.) You may have to categorise the consultants under different  groups, with respect to the internal customer, that they are serving to.
b.) The expectations from the internal customers needs to be brainstromed and prepare affinity digram for the same.
c.) Next is charting down questions – which will help you to get correct feedback – in the sense that questions should not be generic but specific, so that the subjectiveness is minimised.
    Method B :
    a) I believe, you must have identified the key deliverbales for the consultants or may be SLAs from the internal customers.
    b) You may have to categorise under different headings and be more specific, to avoid any bias.
    Hope you find this useful.
