What is the difference between 6 sigm and 3 sigma other than the fact that 3 sigma is a little tigher on overall variance?  Please advise.
    Best!

    Mike,
It doesn’t necessarily mean a tighter overall variance (std deviation). It has to do with a distance from the closest specification limit and in a wide enough specification I do not need to tighten the std deviation but instead just move the mean. That could have made you problem worse.
That said, the simple answer is it has to do with the probability of a defect. Lots of stuff in the blue bar to the left of this screen to explain it.
    Good luck.

    Hello,
there is a slight difference between 6 sigma and 3 sigma.
6 sigma means 3 defects per million opportunities3 sigma means 66 807 defects per millino opportunities.
    66 806 is larger than 3 :-)
