Hi,
I ‘ve started my phD on SS and i’m currently looking on integration of lean -SS. I would really appreciate if you could please list a number of companies using lean six sigma in order to post some questionnaires( european companies preferably). Any further information(journals, articles, case studies) on lean six sigma would be as well helpful.
Kind Regards,
Alex0November 17, 2004 at 9:13 pm #110888

The best person at both SS and Lean, I have ever worked with is Barbara Wheat (featured in a “Ask the Expert” column a couple weeks ago). She has the SS program for Tenneco. They have facilities in the UK, France, Spain and Poland. Probably more I am unaware of.
Good luck.0November 17, 2004 at 9:30 pm #110891Thank you for your reply Mike

ACE model is fitting my desired model, a combination of lean and TQM.I salute to MIT for their kindness to make their lean research papers and theses available to public for free. MIT is only one in the world do that!
0November 19, 2004 at 9:56 am #110971I visited MIT’s LAI site. Possibly one of the very few universities that provide so many papers available to read with free access. Thanks again Dog Sxxt.

Could you please tell me how could I get a copy of the ACE model thesis from MIT? I’m doing research on the ACE program but haven’t found much.
Thanks,

Can someone of you tell me what Gimba means? I got the word from a 5’s training sesion0February 2, 2005 at 6:31 pm #114367If memory serves me right, it was spelled GEMBA and it means “at the place”. So a Gemba Kaizen would be focusing an improvement effort in a specific location (production floor, accounting office, inspection area.)
It’s been awhile so I could be wrong.0February 2, 2005 at 6:34 pm #114368I think you might mean gemba.
Going to gemba is all about observation, listening, and smelling. When facilities spend a lot of their time reworking or modifying sub-assemblies to fit, there can be a lot of working too and fro, hammering, and the smell of sweat :-)
Good luck,

MudaSenseiParticipant@MudaSenseiInclude @MudaSensei in your post and this person will

It’s a japanese word meaning…..Äctual Place…….a place where for example one would do an activity such as Kaizen…..working to create value and eliminate Muda(waste)
eg: In the manufacturing field the Gemba would be the factory.
As Andy U mentioned it is a place where one gets to…….Sweat !0February 3, 2005 at 2:22 pm #114414

John A. TaylorParticipant@John-A.-TaylorInclude @John-A.-Taylor in your post and this person will

There is no substitute for actually observing the functions being analyzed while observations are noting all steps. Youll be surprised at the differences if you complete the discussed process mapping steps first and compare them.0 -
