I am setting up a gage R&R study for calipers in our lab.  The ANOVA method has been recommended.  I do not know how to set the acceptance criteria for the study.  I have heard that <10% is adequate for total R&R variation.  How do I calculate this given the R&R, part variation and total variation.

I would suggest the AIAG book to look up those things.  Or of course the numerous software packages or when all else fails do a google search for the topic.

    Nadine,
Have you performed a gage linearity and fixture study yet and what did you get in regards to P/T for your calipers?  Did you control chart your measurements and look at the process for sources of noise. Does your measurement system have sufficient granularity?
